A New Crop of Screencasts. Vote for your Favorite!

Each day this week, we’ll post five of the top twenty-five videos from the Nettuts+/Screenr competition. Your job, if you choose to accept it, is to review these short web development video tips and choose your favorite one in the poll below. How should you judge? Quite simply – there are no rules! Pick the one that helped you the most. The most chosen video each day will earn a spot in the top five at the end of the week!

With only two days left in our fun screencast week, we’re getting down to the wire! Today, we have video tutorials ranging from applying the DRY programming technique to your templates, to some nifty tricks with jQuery!

        That was actually just me testing out Screenr, but it turned out rather well. I entered it into the comp anyway.

        Nice to see it included anyway.

    I’ve been watching all of these. Screencast 4 & 5 were my favourites. I’ve got a quick question if anyone feels like answering it for me.

    Is it ok to implement a shit load of plugins on one site or will it significantly effect how quick a site loads?

    Great screencasts guys, enjoyed them.

    Number 5 is my favorite, I had to spend a good while trying to come up with a similar feature using jQuery, Ajax and PHP and I admit that this solution is much more cleaner and elegant, the images in the suggestions is a nice touch.

    My favorite is #5. Interesting topic, and very good voice. I cant stand screencasts where they stammer a lot and isn’t organized. He did a very good job in every aspect!

    1. Love it. Way to explain something that could be applied to every language ever. I’ve been touched deeply by this tutorial. :)
    2. Though I’ve been getting interested in CushyCMS for little projects here and there, I’m not fond of the way this screencast was delivered. Lot of.. you actually updating your website and not enough feature exploration.
    3. Way to make captcha not suck! This technique should become a web-standard for sure. Ingenious, really.
    4. Simple and a nice thing to have, but how does it degrade? :\
    5. Dig it. Don’t know how often I’d use it, but it’s still cool to have in ye old trunk of tools.

    Although I like #3, I have to go with #1 based on making DRY easy and supporting that awesome practice. Kudos to all.

    Hi Jeff,

    Could you please tell me if you’re going to filter the final results out by duplicate votes using the Poll Analysis tools on ProProf polls? There seems to be a large discrepancy between the filtered and normal results, as it appears someone has entered over 100 duplicate entries from the same IP address. I am competitive, worked hard on my video, and want to win fair and square (I had a few friends get over-zealous and submit votes in multiple browsers too – those shouldn’t count either). I feel like a douche bag asking this, but I would be very disappointed if I lost due to the fact that someone got to submit their vote over 100 times.

    PS – If you are the person who has submitted over 100 votes, I humbly request that you stop. Please let us compete in an honest, fair, and fun way.
