Sexy Real-Time Analytics with Reinvigorate

Sexy Real-Time Analytics with Reinvigorate

To best serve your website’s audience, you need to understand them as best you can. The best way to do that? Analytics. There’s a few ways to track your website’s traffic, though Google Analytics is probably the most popular due to its price — free.

However, Google Analytics has several important features missing that other analytics providers offer; namely real-time stats and heatmaps. Reinvigorate is one of those providers, which we’ll take a look at today.

Ah, to have the money to afford such a sexy service…

…ah, to actually have need of such a service…

I firmly believe that stats need to be done server-side. Javascript stat trackers seem to slow down page loads, and in some cases have caused pages on my sites to not load, which I just can’t have happening. So, while not very fancy, I use Awestats, analog stats, raw access logs, etc. Yes, I don’t have lots of site visitors, so I know there’s no way I could do what I am doing on a busy site….

The only downside to using raw error logs is having to parse through them all. The advantage of javascript trackers is that it eliminates the bots that might crawl your site… as they don’t use javascript. So, your analytics are actual people visiting your site. Of course, you can always turn javascript off. But, I haven’t noticed any slow down on page loads b/c most sites use the same two or three analytic packages, and it is probably cached on the computer anyways.

I appreciate your opinion, but it’s important to realize that there are quite a lot of things you cannot measure without JavaScript: Browser window size, whether or not Flash is enabled, time spent on each page, etc.

How are heat maps generated? I’m a bit dubious about them. Is it from mouse positioning? If so that’s rather redundant on a lot of devices.

    • mdennisa

I think the heat maps were generated through mouse click event

Yes. It’s Sexy. But it is not free.
Does Analytics tool need to be sexy? To me analytics don’t need to be real time either. Website won’t get more traffic by analyze it every minute. So I think Google Analytics is good enough.

    Great tool!!!

I only check my analytics once a week if that. I probably won’t pay for analytics while google still has theirs.

Excellent application, a great alternative (or in addition to) Google Analytics. Particularly love the heatmaps and the NameTagging options. Great for putting a name to a face, or rather a name to a session id lol :-).

I’ve never actually used Google Analytics, I’ve always used Statcounter (also free), I’m in between two minds switching but changing all my code is a real turn off.
