Folks – you have less than two weeks to finish up your item! Hurry up! How’s it coming along? Let us know in the comments.
After months of planning, I’m pleased to introduce our $41,000 web developer competition on Nettuts+ and CodeCanyon. Officially launching today, we want you to…build something! Do a kick-ass job, and you’ll win everything from cash, to an iPad 2, to the 3DS, to a seemingly never-ending string of subscriptions to amazing online services.
How’s it Work?
-
Build an item…
We’re searching for kick-ass, premium plugins and mobile components at the moment. Think about what you personally have found yourself in need of. A Joomla events calender? A WordPress membership system, perhaps? What about a Titanium boilerplate to jumpstart your iPhone app?
Well, get started building it!
-
Submit to CodeCanyon
When your item is complete, submit it to CodeCanyon. If you don’t yet have an author account, that’s okay; take a few moments to sign up for a free account. You have until May 20th to get your item in!
-
That’s it!
You’re done! Once your item is accepted on the marketplace, not only will you profit from each sale, but you’ll also be automatically entered into the competition! To the best comes the spoils!
Prizes!
We’ve gone all out in this competition to bring you prizes from some of the best companies in the world, including MediaTemple, GitHub, RuleFM, SpiderOak, Usability Hub, and many many more.
Terms and Conditions
-
Entry is open to all Envato marketplace authors.
-
Envato editors, managers, and reviewers may not participate.

-
Promotion commences on 4th April 2011, 12:01 AM EST, and final entries close on 20th May 2011, at 11:59 PM EST. Winners will be chosen within a maximum of two weeks from the competition’s conclude date.
-
Winning authors agree to sign a contract which confirms that their item will be sold exclusively on CodeCanyon, under the author’s account, for a minimum of 6 months.
-
The winner will be notified by telephone or email, and will be mentioned on both Nettuts+ and CodeCanyon postings.
-
All payments and prizes will be made within a maximum of 1 month from the conclusion date of the competition.

Winners will be determined by the Envato marketplace management team, exclusively. All decisions are final.

Nice!
Hello,
Just a quick question,
Is it open to all countries ?
Thx
jeFFF
You’re really not reading.
Looks awesome!
This is awesome! Just a heads up, Structurer Premium is listed twice under Envato Prizes for the 2 Runners Up section.
This would be fantastic to win, but I think thinking of the idea will be harder that it will be to code…
:D
*than
Exactly. I can code well but don’t have any good idea :((
Ok, lets make a team. I will provide you with a slam dunk idea, and you code it.
Yay, awesome!
Too bad it’s only for plugins and mobile components, you should definitely do something similar for some other useful scripts.
Wow! Wish I had the time to put something together for this!
Hmmm… $41,000 sounds good but i’d prefer an iPad :P. I know exactly what I want. Will a strong learning curve stand in my way?
You are aware that $41,000 could buy you an iPad, yes? Or 100 of them, even.
Not after good old Uncle Sam gets through with you.
Looks just awesome! Too bad i can’t make anything decent yet to take part haha, but good luck to the contestants!
Cool! I’m working on something now, I hope my item will be accepted :)
“Envato editors, managers, and reviewers may not participate.”
So authors can participate? :)
Of course!
How else would you be able to submit your item ;-)
Hi Jeff,
There is something wrong in terms
Promotion commences on 15th March 2011, 12:01 AM EST, and final entries close on 15th April 2011, at 11:59 PM EST. Winners will be chosen within a maximum of two weeks from the competition’s conclude date.
I would say the same…
Sound like glorified spec work :\ should we as professionals really be promoting this. Ok you may get a few sales from the code canyon market place but ultimately this is spec work.
Not really. For existing CodeCanyon authors, it’s an opportunity to make a huge bonus.

It would appear that your stylesheet has gone missing :)
We have some awesome WordPress plugins that we have been working on these last weeks and it will definitely be submitted for this competition. Good luck everybody!
COOL ILL GET MY BUILDIN HEAD ON
Best of luck to all participants. (:
Quick question, do these Plugins have to be For WordPress or Joomla? I am currently working on some Invision Power Board stuff, I was wondering if that would allow me to qualify…
Any plugin will do.
I am a Windows user. As long as I can win Mac software and no Windows… I will boycott this event.
Please join in. The price main prize is only 1500 dollar, that’s 25 hours of labour which you could be spending at the beach.
awesome competition,i hope to find myself in this……..
q:i submit an article 3 weeks ago here in nettuts, and i didn’t get a response for accepting or refusing it,can
i know the situation for this?
@xander There is also an iPad2 in the main price. And all the subscriptions or the 1 year hosting (1200$ value) could be useful (even if it’s not cash). The winner gets also recognition and visibility, and that could be even better than the prices…
Are Drupal plugins allowed? Or are the plugins limited to Joomla and/or WordPress?
Drupal plugins are allowed.
Jeffrey, you seem to be using the “kick-ass” term a lot lately and I find it obnoxious and immature. Instead you should use the term “mind-blowing” or the word awesome. It’s sounds more professional this way. Thanks.
You’re right. “Mind blowing” will really grab their attention.
I have two questions about this, which by the way, sounds awesome!
1. You have to be an author to submit? Or can anyone do it?
2. Does it have to be a plugin? I’ve got great idea which would be awesome, but to make it run via WordPress would just make it run slower I think.
Nevermind the second question ^^
quick question
is this open for anyone?
Yes.
Does this mean that teh code shud be *HEAVY* and teh code should atleast consist of a 1000 lines ? or even a simple code with a cool Idea wud work ?
I don’t think the amount of code is an issue, because if you’ve got a well functioning plugin built on a 100 lines of code, I would still like it.
Does the plugin have to have a outside function, Jeff? I’m currently developing a plugin I think is very needed, atleast for me as a WordPress user. The “catch” with it is that it only exists in the dashboard. Is that still something viable for this competition?
Does the existing plugin, i mean alredy submited and having sales also can be added to the competition?
That cool! If I find a good idea, I will try to win the competition :D
hmm…. i don’t know what to code, i’m totaly Blank! LOL
someone has an idea?
@Sulaeman Items already on the marketplace before April 4 don’t count in the competition.
Winners will be determined by the Envato marketplace management team, exclusively.
But how is it based? The most popular items will win? The most unique idea? Random? Whatever they decide to vote on? A combination of a few of these?
Without knowing how items will be ranked, I probably won’t even try.
Halleluja! Great competition for me, now have to make complete something for once :)
What about mobile application written as HTML5? With offline support of course. Is this valid mobile application in general? Is it valid submission for this competition?
Whats wrong with the the styling of the page? Looks like some files are gone missing…

Nice contest, but.. the reality is that for all the time one will put into it to developing the application for the contest, one can actually get paid a nice chunk of cash somewhere.
$1500 is just chump change. the Ipad is also a crappy price compared to the effort.
guys just freelance , yo’ull end up putting 20 plus hours to this and waste your time… plus the’ll keep your work. booooo.
Darn, i just came up with somehting and the competition its already closed!
