Hi everyone. I'm in need of a weekly writer for NETTUTS. You'll be expected to submit one article/tutorial per week. In return, you'll receive $150 each. If this interests you, read on for the details.
How Do I Apply?
In order to apply, you'll need to prepare a tutorial for us. You're free to choose the topic, but make sure that it falls in line with what we currently post on the site. Once it's finished, zip the files up, and email them to nettutsblog@gmail.com. In the subject field, enter "Weekly Writer Position".
What Happens to my Article if I'm Not Chosen?
There are two potential outcomes. If your tutorial is of high quality, but you still aren't picked to be the weekly writer, we'll still post your tutorial and pay you $150. If, on the other hand, your article isn't up to par (shouldn't it be "down" instead of "up"?), we'll politely decline. You'll then be free to post the article on your own site, if you choose.
How Will You Choose?
When reviewing tutorials, I look for several things.
- Is it well written? Are there grammar mistakes? This is an important one, folks. :)
- Has the author provided plenty of images? By plenty, I mean 10-20. Take a look at "Web Design Week" over at PSDTUTS....that many images. :)
- Will our audience enjoy this article? Make sure that you choose an appropriate topic.
- Has the author explained each step? Many times, I receive submissions that essentially say, "Then paste this code in, and you're done!". You must explain each line as best as you possibly can.
- Is the content divided correctly? Readers are scrollers. Knowing that, make sure that you use PLENTY of headings, bullets, and blockquotes to help illustrate your points.
- Format the tutorial correctly. For instructions, look here.
You Must Submit a Tutorial in Order to be Considered.
Otherwise, I'll end up with hundreds of, "I'm interested in the job. Hit me back." emails. When you're ready, email me with a quick introduction (one paragraph will do), and attach your zip file. I'll get back to you as soon as I possibly can.
Good luck everyone! Remember, even if you aren't chosen for the job, we still may post your tutorial.
-Jeffrey

Nice! Too bad I don’t have the time for this… running my own full-time business.

Can I, Can I …. Can I try?
Awesome news Jeff, I’m sure that there are plenty of good technical guys here. I’m in.

Great! Ill might give it a try!

I bet you could afford more than $150 / post

I am about to try to make a tutorial right now, more than 1 submission allowed?
( )Rick January 20th
Hmmm. tempting. But the time it would take to write a good tutorial is not worth the moolahh. Assuming it took 3 hours to write a tutorial…I would have lost half in my time.

It’s tempting I will say. It all depends on how fast I can write tutorials of NETTUTS quality…

Great opportunity for everyone. Cheers.

We assume that the tutorial will require two – three hours. That’s $50 – $75 per hour. I think that’s fair.

Sooo tempting! I’ve made a few tutorials for NETTUTS as it is though, and I know just how time consuming this sort of thing can be!
My hat definitely goes off to editors like Jeffrey, packing in who knows how much time per week!
Anyone putting in for this had best expect to put in a good 8hrs a week on average, but I can also bet forcing yourself into this habit will also provide a lot of great learning opportunities.

Very tempting, but between running my own blogs and slinging code I wouldn’t have the time to put together a NETTUTS-level post every week. I already have enough trouble coming up with ideas for my web-related blog.
Submitting a tutorial to NETTUTS is definitely something I’ve been meaning to try though.

Awesome, I’ll submit my stuff and I hope you guys like it!

What is the deadline to submit a tutorial?
( )Meshach January 20th
@Anthony:
That’s perfectly fair, and in my opinion good wages.

Sounds like a awesome opportunity. The tutorials here have given me a lot of insight and useful web skills. Very cool proposal, and I think I will give my best at a tutorial.
If not used, I can use on my own blog. Which is great. One question though, you’re looking for a weekly writer. So if one doesn’t have extensive history of blog writing, but offers a high quality tutorial what is the chance of being hired over someone who offers a good tutorial but has extensive blog history?
Thanks a lot!

Jeffrey, please, what is the deadline to submit a tutorial?….

If people aren’t going to jump down my throat again for writing about Prototype, I would be quite interested.
( )redwall_hp January 21st
Well, hmm… After some thinking, maybe I’ll try after all… 2-3 hours a week wouldn’t cut into my time that much, and it’s certainly good pay…

Do you take international applications for the job? I mean, not in “any other non-english language” (though if there is such an opening for Spanish, please let me also know about it). What I’m trying to ask is, if I live outside the U.S., can I still apply for the job post? THANKS
( )Jeffrey Way January 22nd
The deadline to apply is this Friday (Saturday for some of you). We do accept international applications.
( )redwall_hp January 22nd
I submitted my entry yesterday. I trust you received it?
( )Ben Gribbin January 23rd
Hi Jeffrey, how soon will you announce the lucky job winner?
( )André January 23rd
I would like to be a member of the staff as a writer, but my english is not very good, and my best skill is flash width actionscript 3.0, so i dont think i will be choose, but in actionscript 3.0 i can write very very high quality tutorials.
( )I dont have a tutorial ready here now, but until tomorrow i can write one with a very high quality in actionscript 3.0, so i will try

Hey Jeffrey!
Just another question, can we submit a tutorial at any time? Even after the job has been awarded to someone? Also you say you need design tutorials badly, I assume this would mean, more CSS design not photoshop?
( )Taylor Satula January 24th
I might have to look into this
( )Monit January 28th
Hello Jeff
Is this position only for writers on nettuts or on psdtuts & vector tuts as well?
Is it still vacant or you already got your guy.
