This week, the folks over at Wrox Publishing (@wrox) have generously donated six JavaScript books to raffle off to you guys! Simply by leaving a comment, you'll automatically be entered to win either "Beginning JavaScript and CSS Development With jQuery" or "Professional JavaScript for Web Developers, 2nd Edition". Good luck!
How Do I Enter?
Earlier this week, at ThemeForest, we launched a new category that will appeal specifically to JavaScripters. This category will offer advanced and helpful components that can easily be imported into a user's project -- things like advanced news tickers, AJAX forms, event calendars, etc. We want to know what you think.
Step 1: Review the Category
Take a brief moment to look over our initial offerings; perhaps review a couple of the live previews.
Step 2: Leave a Comment on this Page
Leave a comment and let us know your thoughts.
- Have a great idea for a submission? Let us now.
- Been needing a component for your project that's not available for free online? let us know!
- Critical remarks? Always welcome; just be polite.
- Ways to improve the service? That works too!
"jQuery is a JavaScript library that helps web developers create JavaScript applications that work well in any browser. This book demonstrates how to use jQuery to reduce the amount of code you need to write and reduce the amount of testing that is required. You ll see how separation of presentation (CSS), markup (XHTML), and script (JavaScript and Ajax) in web pages is a crucial direction in web development for creating maintainable, accessible, cost-effective web sites. The featured full-color code syntax highlighting provides you with a visual reinforcement so you can see the various pieces and parts that make up each line and section of code for each language."
"Professional JavaScript for Web Developers, 2nd Edition, provides a developer-level introduction along with the more advanced and useful features of JavaScript.
Starting at the beginning, the book explores how JavaScript originated and evolved into what it is today. A detailed discussion of the components that make up a JavaScript implementation follows, with specific focus on standards such as ECMAScript and the Document Object Model (DOM). The differences in JavaScript implementations used in different popular web browsers are also discussed."
Thank you so much to Wrox Publishing for helping us out. I've read both books listed above; they're fantastic!

The books Wrox publishes are some of my favorite technical books because their authors explain things in a very straightforward, easy-to-understand way. They are also careful not to leave out or skimp on essential information, which is a big problem with books published by other companies.
So, needless to say (but I will anyway), I would love to win copies of these books!
( )Chris June 19th
This book looks great. I am enjoying your site. The 20 web development tips have really come in handy.
Keep up the good work.
( )Daniel Groves June 19th
Hi, I have a suggestion; I know AJAX has a lot of JavaScript involvement so perhaps you could do some “Back to the basics” tutorials for that? It is certainly something I am interested in learning about!
Dan.
( )Sarah June 19th
Sweet prizes!
( )steven dobbelaere June 19th
javascript graphing with the google analytics api would be interesting

( )AndrewE June 19th
The new resource at ThemeForest is superb! A definite spot for me to watch in an effort to save time and effort on implementing client sites. It’s the only repo of that sort that I am aware of. Great idea!
( )Michael June 19th
I like the Wrox books. I just finished a Wrox Codeigniter book. I would love to check out these books too.
( )Scott June 19th
I agree with Steven Dobbelaere’s suggestion. That would be very interesting.
I really like the zoomer component that is currently available. Extremely cool.
( )Martin June 19th
I would just like to see more jQuery using AJAX.
( )Hapm June 19th
Love Beginning javascript and css development with jQuery
( )Diogok June 19th
Oh, great!
( )Gus June 19th
Great Book!!! one of the many reasons I make nettuts my everyday coffee time reading material
( )Kevin Urrutia June 19th
Great sections I will be buying some when i start developing my own site, esp the smooth calender which is awesome.
( )Tommy June 19th
That “Zoomer” component reminds me of something I once tried to do in Flash but now could probably be done in JS…
What about a virtual tour “walkthrough” sort of interface, all done up in jQuery or another library? That would be pretty radical… something I’m sure the real estate industry would gobble up.
( )Matt Black June 19th
I would love to learn java!
( )Eric June 19th
Have not had a lot of exposure to Wrox Books before. A good a time as any to start
( )Vasili June 19th
I don’t have much to say besides that the components right now are very nice. I was just wondering who reviews the PHP ones, I know James does the JavaScript ones.
( )Chris N June 19th
I wouldn’t mind checking these out. Could use some more jQuery books.
( )Michael June 19th
The themeforest script page has some interesting initial scripts. I think it would be great to have more complex scripts that the normal joe blow could not do. Selling simple scripts are not exactly worth it for most web devs IMHO.
I really could use a good splash page script that depicted a desk with various objects such as books, folders, and other desk objects for users to interact with. Being able to add an object would be great and can serve as a link to a page.
( )Alan Switzer June 19th
That first book looks like it would be a welcome addition to my library!
The series contents looks good so far – I’m interested in the CSS graphing entry. How about some entries specific to Ajax? A “search as you typed” app hitting a MySQL database perhaps?
( )Alex June 19th
Great!
( )BredeBS June 19th
Nice, I really love jQuery, and I hope to get those books to learn more.
( )crysfel June 19th

( )Jeff Kes June 19th

Thanks!!
( )Jeff Deibel June 19th
Great contest, I would love to win one of these handy reference tools. Sometimes, I go cross eyed reading everything off my computer screen!
( )RedRhinoMedia June 19th
I would love to have either of these books!
( )Michael June 19th
Speaking with 17 years of programming experience and seeing the programming trends slowly move back and forth between client-side and server-side scripting over the years I find the the current rush to AJAX somewhat amusing. I do believe that ECMA scripting will become the client-side standard though.
( )Danny K June 19th
I need to lurn some javascript
( )Kevin Page June 19th
good stuff
( )Stanley Hwang June 19th
Some of the components look pretty handy. Nice!
( )Tim Wolak June 19th

( )Chris Swenor June 19th
I believe that the tuts+ web sites are very very good. I recommend them to anyone that wants to improve their web design skills.
( )James June 19th
Wrox is awesome. So is jQuery.
Idea for a submission: a personal code snippet database built with CodeIgniter and jQuery…like an updated Pastebin (http://pastebin.com/)
( )andre June 19th
More javascript tutorials!
( )Izzy June 19th
How often does this happens? Hopefully I get selected. Fingers crossed!
( )krisnrg June 19th
Nettuts owns lol
( )David Radcliffe June 19th
Ajax is the way to go!
I would love to win one of these books
( )Thantos Kalev June 19th
This looks like a useful resource for developers. The existing entries seem to have good comments. However, when selling code, it usually pays to ensure that there are robust examples and tutorials on how to use the code. Of course, commenteers can also provide this information…But it is best to have it readily available before a purchase is made.
Having the “Live The Preview/Example” will be very handy when perusing the code library.
Great job, as usual!
( )Wael June 19th
I love Wrox books.. Great explanation and easy to read…
( )James June 19th
Man o man, was lookin’ at getting some books on Javascript, its the next language I need to learn! Right on!
( )Javier June 19th
I would love to see best practices for jQuery and Ajax (not .NET Ajax) for .NET and MVC.
( )Ugo June 19th
I’m new to web development, these books would definitely help out
Great job guys
( )Chad June 19th
This resource could be a great thing for developers as long as they are coded the right way with speed and scalability in mind.
I’d like a book!
( )Chris June 19th
- I’ve been interested in using JQuery to call to a database for image loading. Might be a cool tut?
- Wouldn’t mind an equal showing of MooTools either. Seems to be a lot of JQuery, and not much exposure for other libraries.
- Design process w/ Fireworks tut
Those are my random ideas. Do with them what you will, haha.
Overall, I love the site! Great work.
( )Lorenzo June 19th
I have some Wrox Books, none of them are JS one. Please count me in.
( )David Rojas June 19th
That zoomer looks great! I think you should keep the price on components low, since they are just a small part of a webpage, price should be lower than a template.
( )Braden June 19th
Very good from I see.
( )Bello June 19th
Please give to me!
( )Sid June 19th
would love to see more javascript/jquery/mootools components that require minimal need for messing around with code. The smooth calendar is a great example and already seems to be popular.
( )Ivan Novak June 19th
I would love to start learning JS!
( )Jermaine Hercules June 19th

( )Rudy Smarts Quevedo June 19th

James June 19th
I just recently found jQuery and am really liking what it can do. As I work at a University, we don’t have much money for books so these two would be invaluable.
( )kilinkis June 19th

( )Nouman Saleem June 19th
My summer before college is set on learning new web technologies like this.
Please and thanks!
( )Kon Boy June 19th
Web 2.0 is the s*@t. Always have to sign up for purchases is no fun, how about just using an email address for verification and processing instead? Those books are a GOLD Mine for sure, especially if they got ready-made resources.
( )Chetankumar Akarte June 19th
jQuery is a lightweight, fast and concise JavaScript Library, simplifies various critical tasks.
Critics always interested to learn booming technology like jQuery. I hope “Beginning JavaScript and CSS Development with jQuery” with be awesome, to help us a lot in learning jQuery with practical examples efficiently.
Thanks!
( )Chetankumar Akarte
Tobiaz June 19th
Great books or usefull resources are always more than welcome
( )Tonamel June 19th
I think that, at least for elements that are animated, a live preview should be mandatory. There’s no better way for me to know how something is going to behave, and seeing it in action is vital to being able to judge how well it will work in my design.
Also, that calendar is wicked, but it needs iCal support (or some other syncable calendar format)!
( )Suciu Vlad June 19th
pretty cool
( )colby June 19th
Pick me, pick me.
( )jaap lelie June 19th
Wow would love to read this book! ive heard from a few people that this book is a real good help in getting used to java. Bought the first book ill start reading that one first.

( )Jaap Lelie
Andrew Rodgers June 19th
Love your postings. I’ve book marked you guys so much, I have an entire subset for just this site.

I have a couple of the Wrox books and they’re great. As a beginning Javascripter myself, I’d love to win one of these books to help get me up to speed. This site looks pretty good as well so I’ll have to browse around a bit.
( )jason HD June 19th
I’ve been wanting to get a good understanding of Javascript! Sign me up!
( )libeco June 19th
I was wondering if anybody would actually buy something with so many free things online, but I actually saw that some purchases already have been made.
Anyway, good luck, I hope you continue recording free screencasts though.

( )Jesse Dearing June 19th
I really like the live demos. I wish that Smooth Menu had a live demo so I could see that in action, but Zoomer is awesome! I could actually see a use for Smooth Calendar for one of my apps.
( )Shane June 19th
Hello everybody.
( )Nathan June 19th
It looks like my next project will be needing a bit more than my standard HTML and CSS, so I’d be all over a book to help me through JavaScript.
Suggestions? Well, I probably would have released the section with more than 4 entries. I see that you can sort by the JS library, how about the ability to filter by JS library?
( )Peace4man June 19th
That Will Be Me …
( )Alain June 19th
Wow. I’d love to get one of these. Have been wanting to learn Javascript for a while.

( )Bwelsh June 19th
6 javascript books? I could do some damage with that. Thanks wrox.
( )Paden Clayton June 19th
Really like the smoothcalendar script.
( )Lance Knadle June 19th
On ThemeForest, Home > JavaScript, the JA V ASCRIPT header could use some kearning but I can see how that might be kinda tough to wrangle. Is there a way to control sIFR header kearning individually with Javascript? Hmm. That could be a cool product! Perhaps, it already exists. I’m just trying to come up with a suggestion so I can have an opportunity to win good books.
Thank you for considering me:)
( )Kiran June 19th
love to get my hands on the books if its not too late!
( )Francois June 19th
Cool prizes !!
( )Jesse June 19th
thanks for the good work, guys.

( )daulex June 19th
This sounds very tasty
I could definitely use a javascript book
Thanks
( )Vega June 19th
Great Books! I want it! :0
How about some sliders
( )James June 19th
Hi =)
( )George June 19th
The CSS graphs is something I could use in several projects where customers asked if their reports could be formatted for a more visual audience.
Under the details page of a specific item, the right column where compatibilities are listed, I think it’d be cool to spice it up with some icons. For instance display the different browser icons, and maybe add a tool tip rollover that would show which versions of the broswer/software it supports. Could even add icons next to the number of times purchased, etc…
Would give a much more visual appeal to grab users attention and possible reduce some of the text on the page. But then again I’ve grown a fetish for web 2.0ish icons so might be overkill.
( )Stan June 19th
I would love to learn Javascript
( )Phil June 19th
I would love either of these.
( )Justin Scheetz June 19th
Me want!
Thanks to Wrox for the donation!
( )Josh June 19th
Wow, this is good timing, I’ve been learning about JavaScript all week. I swear Smashing Magazine can read minds, they always release freebies right when I need them!
( )Josh June 19th
Er, Envato… oops.
( )Erik June 19th
Hey, I’m digging the Javascript section at ThemeForest. Some great stuff already. Seriously, tutsplus/themeforest rock. Keep up the good work.
( )Richard June 19th
Wrox’s CSS for Web Design has been an invaluable asset. JavaScript and CSS Development with JQuery would definitely be a great addition to my web books
( )Kris Allen U. June 19th
Like the new JS categories. I don’t think I have much to add. It would be nice to see more MVC PHP and PHP E-commerce tuts.
( )craw June 19th
Please give to me!

( )mary June 19th
Heh, I never win these things, but hey, it’s worth trying!
Winning either one of these would be awesome!
( )Brad June 19th
That would be awesome if I won that jQuery book.
( )Steve Grossi June 19th

( )Kevin Farst June 19th
Thanks a lot for providing those books!
( )Robert Barnett June 19th
Javascript WROX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
( )Dan Smart June 19th
Maybe package up a JS file with the appropriate PHP server side script? A lot of people need to interface their AJAX with the server side.
Good ideas. I’ll be looking to see what I can submit to it!
( )Henrik Pedersen June 19th
I Agree… My chances to win one of these is so small, compared to how many people who have allready posted in here but, I’m trying and what’s all what I can do
( )Bobbi June 19th
All WROX books are staples for any web developer. I would love to have the JavaScript books.
I really don’t have any critism for the Tuts sites. I read all the feeds daily and think you all have a brilliant group of writers. I would love to see some tuts on SEO or Accessibility.
( )John June 19th
Love the site and would love to get my hands on these nifty books!
( )Chris Fidao June 19th
woot, free books!
( )Taylor June 19th
I really like the idea of ThemeForest’s javascript tool marketplace. But what about the ease of stealing front-end code? How do you protect sellers?
( )Nik June 19th
Thanks for the great site guys! As many others who commented above and below me – I’m just trying to become one of the winners! It would be great to get either one of the books…
I read your site daily and entire Envato network is bookmarked in my Reader.
As for the suggestion – I have one.
I’ve never seen any asp.net tutorials on here. Is that something you’re planning on doing in the future? Or is there a reason you’re staying away from asp.net?
( )Lucas Dohmen June 19th
Hi, that’s a really nice idea! Looks awesome!
Maybe it would be nice to see the size of the script (plus the size of the library), for some developers it is an important point to choose a script!
( )Belgrave H June 19th
JavaScript Rules and so do the books.
All the Sky Net code is written in JavaScript.
( )emilio June 19th

( )Jason Maynard H. June 19th

( )Andy Garrett June 19th
I’ll throw my name in the hat!
( )Diego SA June 19th
Well, both books look incredible rich of good content. I don’t have any Wrox book. I’m learning using jquery hoping someday I can develop with no difficult any ajax element for future clients’ websites.
The only thing I don’t like is the plus membership! I can’t have it for financial difficults, but I think it doesn’t count right?
But looking the Tuts network I can’t see any problem or something I don’t like. Everythign in these websites are great and very helpful. Ow, of course, there should be more plus membership quality downloads, hehe!
I hope I can win these books. Need to read some books too!
( )Anyway, thanks for everything Envato and thank you Jeffrey!
kevin ripka June 19th
i can read!!
( )Ricky Jones June 19th
Sign me up!
( )My Nguyen June 19th
I have always wanted to learn JQuery, during highschool I took a web design class and fell in love but the class only taught HTML and small amounts of CSS. I have been learning on my free time but as a college student there isn’t too much free time to spare. Now that its summer, I’ve been dedicated to learning more about HTML, XHTML, CSS, JQuiery and hopefully someday soon I will be able to learn PHP, and MYSQL.
I really hope I win, got to save my money to buy books for my summer classes.
thanks for this opportunity.
( )Fergara June 19th
Began following Nettuts this morning…
( )MrR0ng June 19th

The two new categories on ThemeForest look pretty interesting, and should prove to be useful.
( )Gotfers June 19th
Hope to win one. Thanks from a french coder.
( )Matthew Krivanek June 19th
I’ve taken a stab at learning jQuery and am very impressed with what I’ve see so far. However, Wrox does an amazing job of breaking the complex topics down to simple, easy to understand bits.
Would love to get my hands on one of their JS books!
( )KFDMike June 19th
I’m in
( )Michael Olivier June 19th

( )kevinsturf June 19th
i want one please, thanks
( )Silver Firefly June 19th
These books look interesting. I intend to learn Javascript very soon along with jQuery. I need to because I’m in the middle of setting myself up as a freelance web designer and I intend to use Javascript/jQuery in the work I’ll do.
( )ahh June 19th
Awesome Books ,hope to wine to start learning Javascript.Thx
( )Grzegrz Szczotka June 19th
We don’t have such books in Poland (jquery) and I’d like to learn javascript at last.
( )dandam June 19th
Glad to have a well-designed, well-written online resource for JavaScript and AJAX. Would love to see a bundle of the top ten most often used and/or most often requested by clients AJAX elements. An image gallery script would be nice, but especially one that clients could comfortably work with on their own and not relying to heavily on LightBox-style pop-ups.
( )Mark June 19th
Great of them to offer this. Thanks guys and i love those books and would love to learn java.
thanks,
Mark
( )Michal June 19th

( )Misura June 19th
shotgun the JavaScript and CSS Development with jQuery book, please
( )Don Carroll June 19th
I could definately use a book like that. Any help at this point would be great.
Nice work on the network of websites you’ve got going–
( )Mohammed June 19th
I think CSS Graph is a nice idea i wonder if somebody try to make another shapes other than the bars like area or pie graphs.
and by the way i would die to get one of these books.
( )Rodolfo June 19th
Very nice resource that will become very handy, indeed!
( )Daniel Morgan June 19th
Love the calendar, seriously wish this had been around earlier as it would have saved me a tremendeous amount of time on a project!
I’d like to see some fully fetured CMS’s that just use javascript and local files. Don’t know if this would be possible though, can you authenticate users with JS?
( )Michael June 19th
I really enjoy this tutorial site – keep them coming!
I could go for more Javascript stuff. Maybe some comparisons of the different libraries (why is jQuery so popular?), explanations for complete beginners (what IS a library?), suggested DOs and DON’Ts regarding JS (how much should I rely on Javascript), etc. I have many questions like these myself.
Again – as always – great site…even though I prefer to be ‘creative’, I also enjoy the technical aspect – so most of your tutorials are very fitting. Please keep that technical stuff coming because it is very much needed. For design or creativity tuts, I go to http://psd.tutsplus.com or http://www.webdesignerdepot.com or http://photoshop.alltop.com/ or any of the others really.
Keep nettuts to the technical side, mostly. But it doesn’t hurt to throw in other things too.
Okay, enough of my two cents. I’m gone.
BTW – thanks for the raffle! Those books look great!

I’m really digging the Smooth Calendar. That would be great to integrate with WordPress for upcoming events on our company site.
I would suggest more tutorials around forms. Maybe nice little tricks like submitting a form using a link, passing hidden values in a URL and things of that nature.
( )Sun Pietro June 19th

( )Tory June 19th
The books look great. To stay current, you can never read too much. I would like to see a tutorial about building a Facebook application from scratch. I think it would make a great tutorial because you could show how popular languages like PHP and JavaScript can be used with a robust API.
Thanks Jeffery, keep up the good work.
( )Ariyo June 19th

I think having the javascript widgets library is a good idea. One suggestion I would make is to be able to sort the offerings by library type. i like to stick with one javascript library and not mix them up in a code base. For instance I might have a project that strictly uses JQuery and I only want to look at JQuery widgets. I would love a free book, hope my suggestion helps.
