Introducing the Tuts+ Marketplace – Making Premium Accessible to Everyone

We’ve just launched the Tuts+ Marketplace, where Premium quality tutorials – both from our Tuts+ Premium program and from unaffiliated authors – are available to purchase individually. Our Tuts+ Premium program will still stay exactly the same – you’ll get all the same things, for the same price. But now, non-members will be able to purchase selected Premium tutorials on a one-off basis, without a Premium membership.

Hey! Look for this link!

So far we’ve added nearly half our Premium tutorials to the Tuts+ Marketplace, and will be adding more over time. To find out if a Premium tutorial is available for sale on the Tuts+ Marketplace, look for this link:

Q + A More Information

Here are answers to some of your likely questions about the Tuts+ Marketplace. Please read through these, and if you have any more questions they may be answered in the special edition podcast Introducing the Tuts+ Marketplace (with me and Sean Hodge as a special guests :) hehe). If not, leave a comment!

QWhat does this mean for Premium members?

That it’s a lot easier to see the value you’re getting as part of Premium. With files on the marketplace priced between $3 and $7, your Premium subscription gives you access to thousands of dollars worth of files for $19 a month. Premium will still work exactly the same and cost the same – so you’ve got nothing to worry about! The marketplace is more for people who aren’t Premium members, and for those who want access to user-submitted tutorials that aren’t available as part of Premium – or anywhere else.

QWhat will be sold on the Tuts+ Marketplace?

We’ve seeded the site with our Tuts+ Premium tutorials, but anyone can submit a tutorial for sale on the Tuts+ Marketplace. If it’s ‘Premium’ quality, it will be accepted. Eventually, the marketplace will be filled with tutorials you can’t find anywhere else.

QWho benefits from the Tuts+ Marketplace?

If you only have time to go through 1 or 2 Premium tutorials a month, or only want to pay for the Premium tutorials you need, the Tuts+ Marketplace is perfect for you. You can purchase tutorials on a one off basis, and files are priced between $3 – $7.

As the marketplace grows, authors will come in from elsewhere to sell their tutorials. There will be high-quality tutorials on the Tuts+ Marketplace that you can’t get anywhere else, so if you love learning from great tutorials, you should keep tabs on the Tuts+ Marketplace.

If you go through lots of Premium tutorials, the Tuts+ Premium subscription is better value for you. The option that’s right for you will depend on your needs.

QWhat categories does the marketplace cover?

We currently host the following categories, and will be expanding our selection over time:

Forums Have your say!

Because the Tuts+ Marketplace is built on our Envato Marketplaces app, we have dedicated Forums. Head on over, sign up for the marketplaces, and tell us what you think of the Tuts+ Marketplace.

    Cool.
But i think Premium Membership is awesome, so i’ll stick to that :P

    Anyway nice improvement.

  3. Ahmed CZ says:

well i have one stupid question :
why you didn’t publish that news here before envato notes because you Introduced that news there a day ago.
well don’t care about my previous question it is really stupid.
there some wrong thing there for example the premium courses like CSS nob to ninja is three premium lessons and you can get them and even more by just 9$ bu registering in the premium program in the tuts+ .
but if i want to buy it from the marketplace i will need to pay 15$ for it, so do you think that anyone well buy this course from the marketplace for 15$
or he will pay 9$ and get the whole course and a lot of +tuts ^_^
i think he will choose the second one
and for solving this problem all you need to but every premium courses that’s available here in one lesson
    that my suggestion.

I think this a great marketing strategy for nettuts attracting more customers on the spot in expense of cost benefit. Still Premium is better for me cheaper more support and longer transition vs. pay per download. God Bless.

  5. Dieter Bogaert says:

Why can’t this be free? shouldn’t poor people have just as much right to learn as rich people? In my perspective envato is getting greedy… There are enough adds on these sites to be profitable. It’s all a matter of management, look at youtube, facebook or google, those sites are much larger than this one and yet they’re all free for the common user.

Because it costs a lot of money to run a marketplace like this, and hire skilled authors to write these tutorials. For that matter, all eBooks should be free too. :)

    • Ivor says:

      Hey Dieter,

A lot of people requested the possibility to get individual tuts from the Tuts+ Network, now you can get a single tutorial for a couple of bucks. You will learn something new and you can build your own stuff to sell it in the marketplaces. :)

      • Boba says:

@Ivor – Minimal price is $5 on the tuts, to buy all the “CSS: Noob to ninja” parts you need $15, and the premium membership is $9 + it has TONS of tutorials including that one. It’s simply ripping of the people who don’t know about premium membership, not a nice move by tutsplus at all.

@Jeffrey – I understand you need a lot of money to run the network and earn some nice amount of money but this really wasn’t a nice move and it’s actually breaking some rules of the marketplaces. According to the rules, Chris Coyier will be getting 20% of the sales since the DIGWP book is not exclusive for the marketplace, same for you Jeffrey, you’re selling non exclusive tuts as exclusive author, can i do that too?

  6. DesignMango says:

looks really interesting, I will be having a look later.

  7. A reader says:

All the preview images on the index page broke. :-(

  8. Wow, great idea! Some of the preview images on the homepage are broken by the way.

  9. Smart move, hope it works out for you!

  10. Brandon says:

I think this is a great move for Envato, hope it works out for them. I love the net tuts tutorials and premium content, definitely worth the money. Psd Tuts…not so much, I think they release far too much sub par content.

  11. Spencer says:

I like the “Admin Shortcuts” link in the navigation :P

  12. Drew Rawitz says:

I think it’s smarter to just get the whole membership for $9 a month, rather than spend up to $7 on one tutorial. Oh well, if it works for some people then awesome :)

  13. Callum Barker says:

Can’t say im really for this idea. In my opinion it just looks like Envato is trying to create every single marketplace that’s possible to create. When people want tutorials on something they search for it on websites expecting to find it for free. I don’t see the industry churning out lots and lots of amazing and exciting tutorials that aren’t already covered by some other website(s) people will be willing to pay $10+ for.
