Learn jQuery in 30 Days

Learn jQuery in 30 Days

Sometimes, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by how much there is to learn in this industry. If jQuery happens to be on your personal “need to learn soon” list, then I’m happy to announce my new course: “Learn jQuery in 30 Days”. If you’ll give me fifteen minutes a day for the next month, I’ll help you become a jQuery pro – and it’s free!

How Does it Work?

Learn jQuery

Sporadically, your skills will be put to the test, when you take the interactive quizzes!

Once you enroll (free) via email, each day, you’ll receive a 10-15 minute video lesson. As you might expect, every episode will build upon the one it proceeds, and, sporadically, your skills will be put to the test, when you take the interactive quizzes!

Along the way, you’ll learn the essentials (querying and manipulating the DOM), while incrementally working your way up to more advanced topics, such as jQuery’s AJAX methods and plugin development.

I worked particularly hard to make the process of picking up this new skill as easy as possible for everyone – even if you have very, very little JavaScript experience. So…do you want to join me?

Jeffrey, you’re awesome. I’d probably become a premium member for this screencasts but they’re free. I hope there will be some screencasts about JavaScript for beginners and follow-ups of course (JavaScript for intermediates and JavaScript for advanced users). The same applies for PHP. That’s the stuff I’m waiting for since the rerelease of the premium membership.

I already purchased the Rockable Press book ‘Getting Good with JavaScript’ since you said — in lesson 1 — that some basic understanding of JavaScript is required to continue the course.

Great! Remember that a Premium membership includes all Rockable ebooks, including Getting Good with javaScript.

And yes – we have lots of JavaScript courses in the works. :)

I am an experienced jQuery user who is doing this course to check my knowledge, and to see if this course would be valuble for people I know who want to learn jQuery. So far, I am very impressed. This course makes it really fast and easy to learn jQuery, and takes the intimidation factor out of it.

I’m interested in trying a course like this on something that I don’t know much about. Will you be making a Ruby on Rails course like this one? I would be interested in that, and might even become a premium member to use it.

      • http://NotImplementedException.me Ayush

A 30-day RoR tutorial would be amazing. For the record, I’d sign up for Tuts+ too for that.

Is this to teach you how to write jQuery or how to use existing jQuery libraries? 30 days seems a bit long to just learn how to use existing ones.

    Great innitiative.

I’ve been receiving lessons for four days now and I’m thoroughly impressed. The quality of the lessons are simply amazing and I’m learning at a pace perfect for me. The problem I have with ordinary courses where I can watch all the lessons in one day is that I often do and then don’t remember any of it. This way, I’m actually looking forward to the lesson of the day.

  • Mark I.

Thanks… This is great to just get your feet under what Jquery is and what its good for… I Hope more Tuts like these come out.

    Jeffery
I am pleased with every video screen cast you do and just wonder how you know so much. Anyways I have never found a text editor that I really like however this sublime text editor seems amazing so far. However I would love for you to have an actual screen cast on sublime itself so when I am following your video I am not stuck wonder how you got the code on their so fast. I have read the “tricks” blog you wrote but would like to have more specifics on how exactly you configured this text editor. This would go along way for me.

    Thanks

    Hi Jeffery,
Is there any provision for backup videos?
    Thanks

  • Miguel

Unfortunately, I paid for the $19 premium membership just for this course and now it’s free? So what is the point of buying the cow if you can get the milk for free?

    • http://www.jeffrey-way.com Jeffrey Way
      Author

The $19 also gives you access to every single course we offer, and all of the Premium tutorials, ebooks, and source files. You also get access to the forums to ask questions.

I learned codeigniter from your videos only. Now hopefully will become a pro in jQuery as well after this month. You are just awesome and yes keep us teaching becoz we love your tutorials.

  • Jared

hey great course loving it, but on the quiz has 1 bug that I found, it’s on the one where you have to watch for a click event on the box and remove the class name, I tried it a few times, because it was the only one I couldn’t get and it was buging me, and not matter what It would not work. and I know it’s right, so that kinda annoying.

sorry would of posted this in the course form, but I’m not a premiem member saddy :(

  • mikheil

    Great, I like it.

I know jquery, but, I’m going to continue watching this tutorials course.

    Thanks.

I am against human cloning but for you Jeffrey, I am willing to make an exception because I need a copy of you at home with me. You are such a great teacher!

      Thx! :)

  • http://www.tylercollins.co.uk/ Tyler Collins

This is perfect! Have just sat through the first 4 screencasts.

Only criticism I would have is that you go through it to fast with your auto completes and flicking through from page to program.

Would be great if you could tone it down a bit.

    Thanks

  • Arnold

    Jeff

When are you creating some advance stuff ?? I hope it will be not premium…

Ive watch all your jquery videos since when themeforest has a blog , this was in 2009
    http://blog.themeforest.net/screencasts/jquery-for-absolute-beginners-video-series/
    and at nettuts
    http://net.tutsplus.com/articles/web-roundups/jquery-for-absolute-beginners-video-series/

it looks like your catering for beginners , I hope you cater for advance users too…
beginners can take a peek and they might learn also too…

    • http://www.jeffrey-way.com Jeffrey Way
      Author

This course will get fairly advanced in the last week. We’ll be covering promises, plugin development, design patterns, etc.

      • Muhammad Saqib

will you cover ajax with jquery in your later tutorials?

  • http://www.fwdsoftware.com Helder Lucas

Thank you for this! I think i learn more with you then in my class at university xD
Keep going with this amazing job

  • Michele

    Hey Jeff,

This looks very interesting. What are your “prereqs” for this course – what does your web development background/languages need to be?

I might be able to fake my way through CSS, but I don’t know PHP, for example.

    - Michele

    • http://www.jeffrey-way.com Jeffrey Way
      Author

Hey Michele – only prereq is that you read a couple chapters of a JavaScript beginners book. I don’t go over the JS syntax at all. As long as you feel fairly comfortable in that area, you should be good to go!

  • nouky

    Hi,

I just read this article: http://www.jquery4u.com/jquery-functions/on-vs-live-review/ and does not agree that .on() method has completely replaced the .live() method.

When I keep pressing on the min/plus button without hovering off the picture with the .live() method, the function works. In the case of .on() method the function does not work.

How can I fix this issue for .on() method??

Check out the demo so you can better understand what I’m referring too.

    • http://www.jeffrey-way.com Jeffrey Way
      Author

You only have to look at the jQuery source to see that live() points to the on() method. :)

Use $(document).on()… with a selector string to achieve the same effect.

      • nouky

I know its weird but they are not giving same results..

  • http://www.arisb.gr Aris

    Hi Jeff!

Bravo, a fantastic work ! It would be interesting if there was some kind of reward after you’ve done the quizzes!

Generally, this is a fascinating idea and a nice concept of teaching. I use jQuery for about 1 year, I thought I know almost everything before I watched the 6 first lessons.

Keep up the great work mate.

  • combuilder

    Jeffrey:
Can you tell me what is the name of the extension for Chrome you talk about in lesson 5?

Do you know a similar tool for Firefox?

    Thank you very much !!
    david

PD: The course is great! I like one lesson per day!

  • Milos

Thank you so much for this tutorial Jeff, it’s been very helpful so far. And also thanks for the hint about on() method, i’ve been reading parallely with this tutorial a book on jQuery 1.6.x where they use bind() method only, so that was a grate update.

  • Johan

Thanks a lot Jeffrey for this training ! It’s great.
Combuilder : I think it’s autosave plugin for Chrome in lesson 5.
I’m currently at lesson 9. This lesson levels up quite a bit. Very very interesting :)!

I was a total beginner in javascript. So, at the beginning, I started with:
    http://www.codeacademy.com
    and then : http://learn.appendto.com/lessons.
Great other video tuts there. I’m looking forward to seeing Ajax tuts there.

At last: tutsplus video tutorials, with Jeffrey Way.
So thank you for these again !

    Two other suggestions :
    1. About Sublime Text 2 : it would be great indeed to have a dedicated course that explain how to create those snippets you use. Because, they’re incredible.

    2. At last, I would love to learn the same way about CSS. Because, of course, it’s great to have nice things done with jquery & javascript. But, if you don’t know well CSS, you’re not able to render a nice website. That’s a pitty.

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/watch3r/ Gene

Wow, I thought I knew a lot in jQuery. Impressive job with the way you explain things. I’ve ran a couple classes myself, and I know I am nowhere near as clear as explaining these things. Brilliant work, looking forward to the rest of this.

  • Dennie

Dear Jeffrey. This tutorial is absolutely top class. Thank you so much for doing this. It is people like you that inspire me so much. Keep up the great work!!
