Need Some Outstanding Developers to Help With New “Components” Category

During the first half of this month, ThemeForest will be launching a brand new “components” category that will appeal more to developers than designers – at least from an authoring stand-point. To help seed this new category, we’re in need of a few more outstanding developers to help us out. If you’re creative and have the chops, email sitemanager@themeforest.net to discuss the details and compensation.

* Note – to qualify for this initial seed content, you really need to know your stuff. When you contact us, please include your unique component idea, and samples of your work. Otherwise, your email will unfortunately be deleted. I’m looking forward to hearing from some of you!

What’s a “component”? Think advanced CSS/Flash menus, drag and drop shopping carts, graphs, etc.

Note: Want to add some source code? Type <pre><code> before it and </code></pre> after it. Find out more

What do you mean by “components”? PHP components? Flash components?

    I don’t get it.

    • http://www.vileworks.com Stefan

Or do you mean plugins? (as in WP)

    • Hein Maas

When you’re a great developer you will know what jeffrey means by this, and if they needed a flash developer then they would announce it on FlashDen instead of ThemeForest

So i believe there looking for an web developer.

      • http://nickd.info NickD

I disagree. I think they should definitely explain a bit more in the post. In the least to save themselves a million emails saying “I’m an experienced developer. Hire me!”. I mean, seriously, they have an idea of wanting these ‘components’, but we have to give them our ideas?

Not to be too rude, but no thanks.

A component can mean a number of things. Consider Joomla!, it’s ‘extensions’ include components, modules, and plugins. Then theres wordpress plugins that vary in complexity. and so on and so forth.

I believe more like jQuery plugins or other framework components that could be used on a website since it’s more type of developers side…

  • http://www.sachagreif.com Sacha

    So you’re not calling it “CodeCave” ?? I’m disapointed…

j/k, that’s great news ! And great timing for my next template ;)

    • http://www.webmaster-source.com redwall_hp

I actually am a bit disappointed. I’d love to have a “CodeCave” site (and had been thinking about the idea a few days ago) where you could buy and sell scripts in different languages.

      Hey Justin,

I don’t think we can sell WP plugins, due to their license.

    Jesus people, it’s not rocket-science.

He wants experienced web-developers who can make things like Event Calenders, Video Players, etc.

Stop making such a big deal about how this is worded.

It’s easy… Email Jeffrey something like:
“I have an idea for a map component that will instantly detect the city where the user is and give directions accordingly. I have 5 years of programming experience with PHP.”
    …And wait for a reply.

    • http://eyoosuf.blogspot.com Yoosuf

hmm in some words you are also corect, will see what is exactly a component!

    • http://www.crearedesign.co.uk Martyn Web

Well said, from how I Interpreted the above its going to cover add-ons that help a sites functionality.

This can cover a wide range of areas.

I hope you launch some good “components” for us to try and buy from there, that would be useful for us in creating our websites. Hope to see those “components” from your soon.

Themeforest seems pretty unique in what its currently offering now, I suppose it never hurts to expand upon that… but the sort of items that a “componenets” type site would call for is already covered pretty thoroughly by a ton of great framework-specific sites out there, and often for free.

Since those sites are so specific, and their communities so specific, there’s a lot more validation and meaningful community input for revisions, etc. You’d need experts on all sorts of languages and frameworks for a site like this to be able to guarantee quality user-submitted content. I don’t know how this new site is going to be laid out and the specifics of it all, but seems like it could easily be a project that takes off and runs straight into a wall because of the ridiculous scope that it can encompass.

I think these “components” are going to be difficult to sell since you can’t really give a live preview otherwise the code could easily be ripped off because it will most likely be xhtml/css/js/xml type stuff.

    Video demos?
