NETTUTS+ Writers Needed!

Happy weekend, everyone! As some of you may know, we’re currently in the process of rolling out our NETTUTS+ program. That means we’ll be needing some top notch articles and screencasts! With high-quality articles comes higher compensation.

I’m Interested. What Next?

You will need to prepare an in depth tutorial and screencast for us. Topics may consist of either PHP, jQuery, WordPress, or HTML/CSS – at least for now. Generally speaking, these articles should be 1.5 times the length of our current tutorials. When finished, zip the files up and email them to nettutsblog@gmail.com.

What About the Screencast?

Each tutorial in our plus program comes with a companion screencast. When creating these, make sure that you use a decent microphone, and record at 960 x 720. You may save the file as either an MOV, AVI, or a high-quality FLV.

Any Tips to Get My Submission Accepted?

Sure. Here’s what I’ll be looking for.

  • In depth and detailed tutorial.
  • Tutorial must be formatted as HTML.
  • Your grammar must be perfect.
  • At least a dozen images. More is preferred. We’re visual learners!
  • The screencast needs to be as clear as possible. Try to remove any extra noise. Don’t assume that the viewer knows more than he does.
  • The topic of your tutorial needs to appeal to the masses. Keep it in the PHP, jQuery, HTML/CSS, WordPress arena for now!

Can You Help Me With Ideas?

That’s what we’re hiring you for! Just ask yourself, “What web dev topic have I Googled more than any other?”.

Good Luck!

Any additional questions can be asked via the comments form.

    Is this a position where you write a number of articles every week/month, or do you just write articles when you have the time?

  • Ethan

    I’m going to try this. I doubt it will get accepted, but, whatever.

    @Ethan – That’s the spirit! Way to be optimistic.

  • http://blog.brenelz.com Brenelz

    The tutorials on Nettuts are already amazing, but even better Nettuts+ tutorials would be incredible.

  • http://synarchydesign.com Kevin Martin

    I’ll definitely try out. I have been wanting to write a tutorial on this one subject. I just need to find a good mic. What kind of vid recording software (preferably free, or with free trial) for windows do you guys recommend?

    Thanks!

    What about screencast only tutorials, do they have a chance, or is it a written tutorial a must?

  • http://visionartisanstudio.com Meshach

    @Jeffrey:

    Home much will nettuts+ cost per month?

  • Chris

    Can we do asp.net tutorials?

  • Misael Arroyo

    @Mesach:
    I am guessing the same as vectortuts and psdtuts, $9/Month.

  • http://themeforest.net/user/JeffreyWay Jeffrey Way
    Author

    @Meschach – To be honest, I’m not sure how much I can say just yet. I’ll keep everyone posted.

    @berofx – Sure. The compensation won’t be as high, but we might be able to work something out.

    @Kevin – You can download a free full working 30 day trial of Camtasia Studio. It’s the best for Windows!

    @Misael – Maybe…maybe not.

    Some ideas that would work well for our Plus program.

    1) Build an advanced jQuery Plugin from scratch.

    2) From PSD to WordPress.

    3) Implement Caching into Your PHP Website.

  • http://defaultprime.com SuperMario290

    Definitely send you guys a couple of articles when I finish them. Can’t wait to see more posts!

  • http://eleven2.com Nouman Saleem

    from PSD to wordpress would be a single tutorial including making the design?

  • Eduardo

    How much will the writers earn per tutorial?

  • http://themeforest.net/user/JeffreyWay Jeffrey Way
    Author

    @Nouman – It doesn’t have to include the designing. You can start with the finished PSD.

    @Eduardo – $250 for tut + video.

  • Freddy

    this means no more free source code?

    that sucks!

  • Devin

    Ok, I will do HTML/CSS stuff. Hey I got a great Idea. How about Myspace Coding For Beginners.?

  • http://themeforest.net/user/JeffreyWay Jeffrey Way
    Author

    @Devin – Probably not appropriate.

  • Devin

    It was just a thought, but I didn’t say I would do it

  • http://www.looneylunar.com/ Nate

    What about… Ajax/HTML/CSS-to-Adobe Air?

  • Stefan

    Hey,

    can’t wait for Netttuts+.
    How much do we have to pay for reading the articles?

  • http://www.pixmatstudios.com demogar

    I was writing an article about making your site to load faster without touching the server (with cache and things like that). Is it good for this?

  • Jraider5

    ah crap this sucks, so now we get more great tutorials that we cant see unless we pay.

  • Blaž

    Ahh, I would so like to create a tutorial and I also have some good ideas what to write about, but my English is not that good and would probably spend too much time on writing a tutorial.

  • http://visionartisanstudio.com Meshach

    @Jeffrey, would “Making auction templates for eBay” be alright?

  • http://themeforest.net/user/JeffreyWay Jeffrey Way
    Author

    @Freddy – Of course not!

  • Zhao

    “Thats what we hire you for”

    lolz

    Anyways, I will try, I am an attention whore, I would pay any effort to get exposure ^^

  • http://hostdkr.com Devin Rajaram

    @Meshach – This is tutorials, ebay templates is all html/css, maybe some flash if you want to get fancy.

  • http://hostdkr.com Devin Rajaram

    @Blaz – Maybe if you write it in how good you can speak it and have someone who speaks very good english, such as me, or any other people that would be willing to proofread it to make sure it’s written nice and proper that wouldn’t be a problem.

    I know there are a lot of people who love Nettuts so much they probably take the written tutorials that we have here and use a translator just so they can read it.

  • Sam McCarthy

    I would love to do proof reading for nettuts. Don’t know if it would be needed but consider myself willing to help.

  • http://hostdkr.com Devin Rajaram

    @Jraider5 – The tutorials that will be in there won’t be like the tutorials you see posted here to the public. It will be more in depth and more amazing. I have a PSDTUTS+ and the tutorials that you see in there are out of this world. So imagine Vectortuts+ and Psdtuts+ and then think of web design realted tutorials.

    You never know someday it may have tutorials on how to make a site like adobe with all of the effects and those extentions aspx etc.

    That’s what $9 can get you, hopefully it’s still nine bucks :p

    And best of all you get all source files, even if its a screencast.

  • http://hostdkr.com Devin Rajaram

    @Nate – If someone is willing to do those tutorials, then yeah. Plus the only thing I really don’t work with or hardly see is Adobe Air.

  • Daan

    Naww, too bad I’m not good at screencasts.

    I’ll try to create some other tutorials soon though :)

  • http://simon.vansintjan.org Simon

    So, if you submit a tutorial for +, but they don’t quite make the cut, would they still be considered for non +?

  • http://themeforest.net/user/JeffreyWay Jeffrey Way
    Author

    @Simon – Absolutely.

  • http://hostdkr.com Devin Rajaram

    So everyone, its a win, win situation.

  • http://www.pixmatstudios.com demogar

    I’m thinking to have a try with this with the article I said before

  • Kiril

    @ Sam McCarthy – would you like to share you contacts with me, or enyone else who can do proof reading for some tutorials?
    Email Kiril.Boyle@gmail(dot)com

  • Dave Lizotte

    Hi mate, Are you open to put some .NET / ASP tutorial on nettuts.com ? If yes, contact me, we are some suggestions / ideas to discuss with you.

  • Csaba

    Jeffrey,
    Would you be interested in topics like CodeIgniter and Google Web Toolkit (or both)?

  • http://gekinzuku.com Leah

    Do submitted tutorials absolutely HAVE to have video? I’d like to try writing a tutorial without one… Not sure what about though. :]

  • http://komputerblog.com kinta mahadji

    I gonna try, thanks jeffrey :D

  • chris simpson

    i love the community on here, so many people wanna try out and get content out there. (well i know there’s money involved… but still)

    I really do intend to get some screencasts done sometime, may as well give it a try :)

  • Sam McCarthy

    @Kiril: Just sent you an email – should get to you.
