Sublime Text 3 Beta Released

Sublime Text 3 Beta Released

This just in: after six months of silence, the beta for the next version of the popular Sublime Text code editor is now available for testing to registered members. Join me as I show you the first features that you’ll want to try, including instant loading and the ridiculously useful “Goto Definition” command.

It looks like we’re due for a new wave of beta updates, not unlike early 2012! So what do you think? Let me know below.

    Still using VIM :).

Interesting how what used to be in /Packages now seems to live in /Cache … I wonder if/when/how they clear the cache and, if so, where the installed packages go

    I’m so aroused.

@jeffery Is there any mention of support or a new release for/of Emmett (zen coding) for ST3? I tried copying my ST2 package over but it didn’t seem to work.

  • tom

think i will pay for it and hope for the best :)
    thank you, :) tom

“Users with a Sublime Text 2 license key can continue using the key with
Sublime Text 3 while it’s in beta. When 3.0 is released, upgrades will
be available for $30, or $15 for users who have purchased recently. The
cut off date for the reduced upgrade price will be based on the actual
    date of the 3.0 release.”

You must be joking. Extra $30 for licensed users ?

Who else is going to pay him for the time he has lost with developing sublime further and further?

Software is a living and evolving organism.

When developers (& community modders) stop developing, the software is dead.

I am prepared to pay for him to keep developing it on, are you? Considering how personally extremely useful and highly productive Sublime Text has been to me compared to the price of Photoshop.

Not to mention that you don’t even have to pay really, the unlicensed version allows you to practically use sublime indefinitely. (Although I guess that isn’t guaranteed, we’ll have to see if Jon will keep the goodwill up or have a knee jerk reaction)

What he should really do is open up the pricing structure to be on a sliding scale (e.g. like humblebundle.com ), he’s losing out on a lot of money. I would have paid for several licenses given the chance.

I agree with you and I was going to pay some money for an upgrade of this amazing editor ( as I did in Ver 2 for all the
reasons you mentioned). But I really thing that its too much for an upgrade.

Price is just too much. I think such arrogant price increase will only force piracy. I foresee it being like WinRar. I was just about to buy it just to get access to Sublime3, but $50 is already a bit too heavy for my wallet

I think the jump from Python 2.x to Python 3.x is really great news. :)
And it could justify the upgrade price.
That would really mean a lot with regards to plugins/extensions.
Haven’t really tried the beta but I will. I am sure I’m not going to be disappointed.
Especially if SublimeClang works in ST3, then I’m sold.
