Choosing the Winners

We and the FusionCharts team will select the seven users with the most insightful comments as the winners. The results will be announced on this page on May 7th, 2010 (Eastern Standard Time).

Wait a Second…

If you did a little math, you might have realized that seven licenses worth $499 each doesn’t equal $5,000, as we mentioned in the title. So where’s the rest?

Well, there comes in the big one: If the number of comments exceeds 500, then we will select one winner for the FusionCharts Professional Bundle. The bundle is worth $1,499, and contains a license of each of their other data visualization components as well:

  • FusionWidgets – for gauges and data streaming charts
  • FusionMaps – for interactive data-driven maps
  • PowerCharts – for super-powerful specialized charts for specific domains

So what are you waiting for? Get typing now. And tell your friends too.

Note: Want to add some source code? Type <pre><code> before it and </code></pre> after it. Find out more

I use charting mostly in my backend web apps (either PHP or ASP.NET) and the biggest challenge when integrating chart is the programming model thus makes some products harder to learn. I found FusionCharts is simple, easy to learn but yet powerful.

  • Shiro

Count me in! I would like to use it long time ago, just don’t have $$$… please select me : )

  • Bjorn

I’m porting a web application written in Delphi, to C# Asp.Net. The application is written for call centers. Managers and owners wants to see what’s going on in the call center by means of some hot looking charts, and that’s where FusionCharts comes into play. Unfortunately FusionCharts cost quite a buck. Since we’re based in South Africa, the Rand Dollar exchange is preventing us from using FusionCharts. We are likely, without your help, to end up with a lesser solution for our clients :-(

    • http://www.fusioncharts.com Sanket (FusionCharts Team)

Nice to know you think our charts are hot looking, Bjorn. You might also want to take a look at our FOSS offering, FusionCharts Free – http://www.fusioncharts.com/free – basic but up to the task for a lot of applications.

    - Where do you need charting?

In my work because i am developing intranet website.

    - What is the single biggest challenge you face with charting?

When importing the data from external XML file but with FusionCharts this is became easy.

What do you love most about FusionCharts? In case you haven’t heard of them before, check out the online demos ?

    The pre load animations .

I use charts at work and at home to represent sales evolution, HR indicators performance, hardware statuses etc. Basically everything that has a measurable evolution over time is a target for charting. Clients love the easiness of just “understanding” how their business is going just by looking at a nicely designed Flash chart.

My biggest challenge is trying to emulate front-end charting in the back-end. Some charting needs to be generated automatically and sent over email, without browser interaction. I try to replicate the quality of the Fusion Charts on the server side, but it much more difficult. A solution for these kind of issues would be great.

Fusion Charts just look great. As much as we try to emulate their behavior in CSS or other language, at the present moment, Fusion Charts delivers the best experience for the viewer in various flavors and easily customizable in many ways.

    • cleawalford

      yes, fully agree.

I`m working mostly on business 2 business applications, so i need them for analytic`s that is one of the most important parts for clients.

The biggest challenge i have with charts is making them pretty while looking same in every browser yet usable.

The reasons above is the reasons why i love Fusion Charts.

  • exi

I want to use integrate Fusion charts with my client’s intranet. Biggest challenge is ease of use and good look. I like it, because those charts are feature rich and totally usable.

  • Wiehann

    Where do you need charting?
I need charting for a project/time management application which I am busy writing. I need to display charts in a wide variety of formats (ie normal bar and line graphs won’t suffice)

What is the single biggest challenge you face with charting?
My biggest challenge has been Gantt Charts when working with a large amount of data.

What do you love most about FusionCharts?
Most of all – I love the documentation that FusionCharts provide.
But the fact that it integrates well with different languages and the fact that they offer a wide variety of charts makes me love it even more. (I have used the FusionCharts Free charts and it rocks!)

Visual representation of statistics was an evolution of statistic science generally, graphs exist a long time but rich web applications that contains graphs are exist a few years, first came with simple representation of horizontal bars (polls) with the use of html/css only and after that GD came into game with graphs generation libraries (like phplot). Into web2 the modern way of statistics representation when we are talking for graphs we either mean JavaScript libraries that generate graphs (like jQuery table to graph by using canvas) and of course Flash technology (most popular seems to be FusionCharts and Open Flash Charts). The fancy thing is that the animations of both Fusion Charts and OFC are great and cool, you make yourself and your client actually love to see them (so in case of a bad statistic you make his day a little bit hehe) but when you came to choose something you have first to respect you and your client and then FusionCharts come into serious game as it provides you all the methods you need to have a nice, clean & professional charts for any purpose.

Personally I use charts for all my projects from small sites by showing them the traffic of their site to economy based applications and statistics of institute in entire country.

The biggest challenge when you face charting I think is when you client don’t respect them so much and he don’t cares if you will use simple charting or you will prefer something more powerful and fancy parallel. Many will say “ok if he don’t won’t them its ok…” but a few developers who respect their work and want to have a nice and rich portfolio will prefer to use the edge of quality in their applications as each application is a child of the developer and which parent don’t want the best for his kid?

As I worked with FusionCharts I love the flexibility it provides to interact with charts and of course the UI is actually the meaning of perfection in graphs :)

  • Tim

Would be great to win this !!

  • Prince

I need charting very frequently as many of our clients demand an interactive dashboard to be developed for tracking their sales and everytime I end up suggesting them some few alternatives which basically range between fusion charts, google charts and open charts. I have tried with generating javascript charts as well but they really lack in performance and sometimes end up crashing the browser.

The biggest problem with the chart creations is managing the large amount of data, displaying them in an interactive way and at the same time keeping them visually exciting for the user.

Things I like about Fusion Charts:
A few of our clients have actually bought Fusion Charts and we also got a chance to work on the fusion charts and i must say the detailed documentation and the extreme customizations have been so easy to implement. Complex animated charts and widgets, bullet charts, cone/cylindrical bucket widgets, gantt charts, time-based and multi-series charts are way too easy to implement in Fusion Charts. Moreover…. a single XML file can easily be converted to a Pie or Doughnut or 3D Coloumn or an interactive Grid or a line graph just by chaging the name of the graph you want.
This feature is so cool that it actually helped us by letting us generalize all the xmls and thereon we proceeded
1.) by simply calling the chart we needed
2.) provide it the generalized XMLs (by generalize i mean single XML for diferent knd of graphs)
3.) let the clients play and explore and hear their oomphs and aamphs :)

Hoping to win a license of fusion charts so that we can create online demos, samples, custom applications to attract more users.

  • http://www.groople.com matt

This would be extremely helpful in my reporting system since coldfusions’ charts are limited. The ability to animate charts is restricted with Coldfusion’s capabilities. I love the ease with which charts can be created.

cool charts, I want for one of site I am developing related to Stock Exchange : http://www.sattastocks.com

I need charting almost everywhere I build a report in my websites.
The biggest challenge I face with is chart’s graphical options.
And after seeing FusionCharts online demos the most amazing thing about it is it’s capability to create various charts and it’s beautiful designs.

Data recording was made easy with the help of computerization, but now a days data analysis through visualization has become order of the day.Fusion charts is one such revolutionary tool to represent the visualization of data. We use charting for almost all our web applications for data analysis and visualization.

The biggest challenge we face in fusion charts is relating and compiling multiple charts.

Fusion charts are ineviatble in this era so anybody who wants to expand the business will definately love them. The ease in implementation and simplicity in the syntax makes the fusion charts more favourite. we love fusion charts as they deserve that respect and love of any developer and businessman .

My Next project is developing an Assessment Engine for HR, which will give a complete/detailed information about candidates their qualities like, knowledge, Leadership, Decision making…etc. Since most of the information will be displayed as infographics so it will be a wish come true if i win Fusion charts license.

The biggest challenge i have with charts is most of the time the application demands different/complex set of data so the methods charting framework should provide is to be a flexible yet extendable.

And the thing i love about em is the variety they got…. no matter how you want the data to be presented they have the solution within the package.

    **fingers crossed**

Great idea for a contest…fingers crossed!

    1. Where do you need charting?
Backend interfaces for users/admins for a couple of sites I’m working on. Things like showing trends over time (e.g., number of visitors, number of leads generated, etc)

    2. What is the single biggest challenge you face with charting?
Making the interface easy to use and understand for new users. Just one way to keep people using your service rather than leaving because it’s too hard to understand. Charts also need to be visually appealing in order to meet most users’ expectations for overall design.

    3. What do you love most about FusionCharts?
Easy integration with Ruby on Rails, which is the main framework I use, but that it can also be used with other progamming tools (in case I decide to move to something else down the road).

  • netjet TK

they look so nice. wish to get one, graphs allways look so boring, with these fusioncharts not :)
    best regards

  • http://hector-lee.com Hector Lee

I’m building a staff section website for the company’s internal use. It would be great to have charts to depict changes or progress as staff don’t really bother about numbers and absolute values.

I have been contemplating generating charts as it seems daunting and most chart generators looks crappy. That would really reflect badly on me.

FusionCharts looks great and doesn’t feel sluggish at all. Most flash animation has been sluggish but FusionCharts feels like it has been optimised really well and would affect my application.

  • Sylvain

    Hi !!

I need charting in my apps (PHP/MySQL), which display lots of data from studies (custom dashboard, like analytics).

My biggest challenge is resource comsuption and limitations. Actually i’am with a php based solution (not so fast, consume memory…), and i want to go toward a better, faster & cleanier charts using flash & ajax.

What i love most is the client side rendering, and the interactive charts.

  • Aggy

    hii,
as i am creating animated visual content for advertising displays in markets all over my country, i am always in need for better visualization methods that come around. The difficulty on this is, that you need a compatible possibility to get those “Webviews” to work. I’ve tried FusionCharts a while ago and that was the only thing that worked with the complicated viewing-mechanism of those displays, so i would love it, to catch a license up.

    Greetings
    Aggy

    1. For me, charting is a significantly important marketing tool. Presenting page upon page of numbers and results shown in text is not only boring, it’s no longer acceptable and you will quickly loose your audience. I find that presenting statistics via artful & unique charting methods tends to make it easier to impress upon new clients the importance of their dedicated inclusion in a custom design/coding project. Additionally, I want my client to be able to get the most out of their traffic, sales data and other stats unique to their business (the only time I succeed is when they’ve succeeded).

    2. Easier said than done. Anyone who has worked with charting software has discovered that you must master many things . . . from long learning curves, to anticipating display problems by any-given end user I sometimes find myself wishing I knew more about coding so I could write my own application. Additionally, files tend to become bulky (optimization techniques help of course – but usually after time-consuming added steps of conversion, re-alignment of graphics and so forth).

    3. The Fusion Charts system is a giant leap ahead. It takes the ever-mounting pressure off a designer to produce unique, modern, visually compelling statistical displays. I know I can trust this company to be on the foreground of both flash-driven charting, and edgy, modern designs. I spend hours upon hours pouring my creative sweat and tears into my projects and it would be a relief to know that I’d have consistent, stable and feature-rich tools in which to build smokin’ visuals for displaying the results of this work.

Thanks to both NetTuts+ and FusionCharts for this opportunity!

  • knalli

We’re using both FC and PC in our web application. The nature of the app – collecting and presenting data and statistics – can really profit by this charts. Excellent charts!

The overtopping features and the xml data interface are brilliant, but I’m still missing more certainty producing the xml code (thinking about xsd).

@Team: Do you have plans for a real html5 branch? Afaik there is still no big bundle available. :)

  • Matthew

    Where do you need charting?
We are starting to develop more of a Real-time dashboard applications using Coldfusion. The coldfusion charting that is built in is good, but I was looking for more features like real-time updating.

What is the single biggest challenge you face with charting?
Finding professional charting that has everything the client is asking for. FusionCharts is great because it has so many features that I can wow the client with.

What do you love most about FusionCharts?
Very easy to use. Great documentation. The charts can be used with different scripting languages, and in other software. The FusionCharts team is very helpful in the forums.

  • Chris King

    Where do you need charting?
I need charting embedded in my application, on dashboards and on my portal.

What is the single biggest challenge you face with charting?
The biggest challenge is integrating the charts with our other ajax components. In some places we are replacing data tables with charts and need to drill down or pop up a dialog div with an ajax call after clicking on a chart.

What do you love most about FusionCharts?
First and foremost the eye candy. Second, the breadth of charts available. Third, the ability to call javascript functions.

I have been wanting this application since soo long!! Please make my day :)

  • http://www.sharpwebstudio.com hemant

I would love to have this application for showing feature-rich application to our clients. We have done numerous dynamic projects but nothing as exciting like Fusion Charts. Graphs and Features are Mind Boggling. Everyone wants to be a partner of fusion chart, including us :). As a ceo of Sharp Web Studio (www.sharpwebstudio.com) would like to be a partner with fusion chart and help clients with this technology.

    1) Need of Charting – can be shown in any dynamic application and specially i would like to embed this application in Exchage Stock applications where the financial transactions are displayed through fusion charts.

    2) The synchronization of current technologies like ROR, php, asp.net and flex is challenging. We need to modify our applications that shows the result in interactive way with fusion chart. So i believe this challenge makes a big difference on developing such applications.

    3) They are the best and we love using best things to impress users and give their business boost :-)
