Abbreviations are an inevitable part of being a web developer. HTML, CSS, HTTP, XML… the list goes on and on.

This Darth Sidious edition should be a fairly advanced test of your web development force-fu. Keep in mind that this covers the entire spectrum of the web, not merely code — so be warned!

JIT stands for Just In Time, a compilation technique

      • Coz

It’s also used to control stock in warehousing, that’s the only reason I’ve heard of it!

      • Robin

@Coz is right, JIT is originally a term used in business engineering. It’s a production strategy that strives to improve a business return on investment by reducing in-process inventory and associated carrying costs. Just-in-time production method is also called the Toyota Production System.

Damn. Who thought my study (business engineering) would be useful as a webdeveloper.. xD

  • http://benmartinstudios.com.au Ben

I got 90%. For WAI (#12), I knew the answer, but in my haste I clicked on the wrong one ;) I had CSRF (#14) down to two and guessed (wrongly).

What was up with i18n and l10n? I don’t think they mean what you think they mean. Do you have a source for those answers?

    • http://www.ssiddharth.com Siddharth
      Author

l10n shouldn’t be an issue but for the former, I always thought it meant just internationalization but Wikipedia disagrees with me. So there you go.

  • http://benmartinstudios.com.au Ben

I love how learner is capitalized but master is not :S
“You are now not The Learner, but The master. You scored 100%”

    • http://www.ssiddharth.com Siddharth
      Author

Maybe it’s my Jedi mind tricks? ;)

  • Darren

90% – damn clicked the wrong answer by mistake for JSP!! Didn’t know what DES was. Still chuffed with that though.

Have you taken the HTML5 Attributes in 5 minutes test yet – it’s brilliant. I had 70 remaining after 5 minutes and I think I did quite well. It’s tough. You, Jeff, and Mr Burgy should do well at it. http://thehtml5quiz.com

    Cheers,
    Darren.

  • http://www.wordimpressed.com Devin Walker

    JIT was a killer

  • Amayreh

Got 95%, guessed some of them, I read about DDoS and other abbreviations yesterday in an article about Cloud security, the new abbreviations that I have learned was:
DevOps, PaaS, SaaS, IaaS, DoS and AuthN/Z

  • Abhijit

Somehow I got 100%! Was not sure about a few though :). By the way, I always thought i18n is for “Internationalization” and l10n is for “Localization”.

  • http://timhillrocks.com Tim

85% I knew about half of these, but some of them were pure guesses. I was surprised it was that high. I’ll take it.

  • http://nightfirecat.right-0n.com/ Jordan

Heard of some, but not of others, scored 95%. Pretty good, in my opinion.
Definitely a fun quiz – I’ll need to go read up on the ones I guessed on! :)

  • http://blueco.ir/ طراحی سایت و سئو

  • http://www.gloverdesigns.com Richard G.

BAM: 100%. :-D I do think your definition of TCP is a little off though, FWIW.

  • http://pinoyitpro.com pinoyitpro

    wow… got 100%… i’ve guessed 30% of them though… :D

  • Richard

    Correction to two of them:
#4: The correct answer is just internationalization (i18n = internationalization, L10n = localization)
#16: L10n is specific to localization, but the correct answer here too, would simply be localization

Otherwise, awesome quiz. Got me 95% :-)

  • Ian

Yay! Was afraid it would be embarrassing but made 90%. I think it was the i8n and i10n ones I missed because I have no clue. Guess I better google those. :-)
