Too many people just rattle off a CV without taking enough time, care and attention over it. A well prepared CV stands out a mile from others that aren’t and will therefore be the one that gets a candidate invited for intervie

  19. chris says:

i dont get it, what an employer wants most is a piece of paper on his desk that is well written, nicely laid out and concise. It should obey “KISS”, “Keep it simple, stupid” and have good content. All i use is a snappy title including my name, with basic details in a neat block at the top and then thick header bars with each section of the cv in them. So for example “Qualifications” would be in a title bar, left aligned with short bullet points below.

all these on here are just trying to woo idiotic managers into going for best looks. a good manager will look past it, good luck.

  29. A Recruiter says:

#1 is the only one of these that has a small prayer of not ending up in my trash can. And even it needs some work. The person’s contact information should be at the top in larger font than the rest. And all of these are missing the one-line “Objective”. Want the job? Tell me what your objective is. I throw out a ton of resumes from technically qualified individuals who clearly have no idea what they want to do with their life other than make some money. Money is meaningless. Life is too short to waste like that.

I also throw out multi-page resumes. Fit it all on one printed page or I will play trashcan basketball with it.

Yup. You probably didn’t get the job because your fancy-shmancy resume showed up on my desk.

Full disclosure: Okay, so I’m not a recruiter, but I know plenty of people who are and they have seen everything. The above are the sorts of things I hear them say when we chat. They occasionally show me some of the gems they come across and I drop my mouth in amazement as to the nonsense they have to put up with. You significantly lower your chances of getting hired by using any of these resume templates! You have been warned!

  31. Nick Frozen says:

I really like those design, but it´s pretty hard for someone who is not familiar with PS to make something like that. i guess for “normal” people are quite good online resume builders like http://www.resumesimo.com/ , it make also pretty nice visual resume

  32. Jon says:

The point of online resumes are not for handing over to employers. You still had over the “KISS” one page resume when you are applying, but in the age of Google, your prospective employer will probably Google your name in hopes of finding out more about you (Facebook, personal blog, LinkedIn, etc.). Your online resume will then show up in the search (probably) and then they can learn more about you if they want to; maybe even put some of your projects on your site so they can see your skills in action. Or maybe all you do is just put the URL to your online resume at the top of the sheet you give them, but an online resume will never become a replacement for the current standard, just a supplement.
