PHP/JS Competition: Win an iPhone 3GS!

PHP/JS Competition: Win an iPhone 3G S!

As many of you know, we recently launched two new categories on ThemeForest which feature PHP and JavaScript components. To help boost our selection, we thought that it might be fun to hold a small competition on Nettuts+.

How’s it work? In a sentence: the authors of the three best submissions to these categories, between now and August 14, will receive prizes and exposure, courtesy of CSSRockstars.com.

How Do I Enter?

Very easily, actually. Prepare either a JS or PHP component and submit it to ThemeForest. If it’s approved by the ThemeForest reviewers, submit a link to your item through the competition entry form. Once you’ve done so, you’ll automatically be entered!

  • Entries will close at midnight, August the 14th (Pacific Standard Time).
  • Anyone (worldwide) is eligible to enter, as long as you are not an Envato staff member or regular author.
  • Regarding the CSS Edit prize – PC users can request an extra 6 months Plus membership instead of this prize.

Winners

A team of no less than four developers will determine the winners. The top three authors will receive the following:

1st Place Prize

  • We will pay for a new iPhone 3G S ($199 USD value) – via a $200 Apple gift card.
  • 1 x CSSEdit ($42 USD value, or + 6 Months Plus membership for PC Users)
  • 1 x One-year Plus Membership ($117 USD value).

3rd Place Prize

  • 1 copy of CSSEdit ($42 USD value, or + 6 Months Plus membership for PC Users)
  • 1 x 6 Month Plus Membership ($44 USD value).

What happens to my items if I’m not in the Top 3?

That’s the wonderful thing about this competition. Even if you don’t win, you’ll still earn 40-70% for every sale on ThemeForest! So actually, you can’t lose!

Don’t forget to check back on August 14th to determine if you’re a winner or not!

But you can still enter this competition, and maby win the iphone…. (you dont need a mac for that)

We’ve decided to allow non-Mac users to request an extra 6 months free Plus membership in place of this prize.

  3. Ernie says:

What are the restrictions? Are Canadians (Or any non-US at that) allowed!?

  4. Matt says:

Now to just come up with an awesome script to enter -_-”

  5. Ian says:

What if you’re a windows user and win the first or third place prize?

  6. Alex Wind says:

Then you need a mac :P

  7. Ryan says:

slight correction to your prizes, the second place prize say a 6 month Plus membership ($117 USD). Should it be a $44 usd value as correctly stated in the 3rd place prize?

  8. Neil says:

So the prize is a $199 apple gift card, not an iPhone?

    • Omar Abid says:

      ohhhhhhhhhhhh $199 = a new Iphone 3 G s, can’t you check the iphone site?

if they gave u $199 apple gift card, you’ll buy with them an iphone or just spend them on other stuff if you have it already

  9. Rocky says:

Learn to read, it says We will pay for a new iPhone 3G S ($199 USD value)

the first place item is valued at over 199 USD.

  10. Rick says:

Ok so…if my contract isn’t ready for renewal with AT&T….and I win…does TF pay the full iPhone price?

    • No, you just get the 199$ gift card which can be *use* to buy an iPhone. If you already have one then you can just buy anything else from apple.

      • Rik Girbes says:

        Realy?? thats cool!!

So in my case: i want to buy a macbook…. but still need some money… can i use that gift card for my macbook?
(i ofcourse wont be able to buy the complete macbook with it… but i helps..)

        :D

To answer a few questions floating around:

    1. There are no geographic restrictions to entry. Enter from Antarctica if you like!
    2. We’ll give you a $200 Apple gift card to buy an iPhone – or whatever you want.

    Good luck everyone!

Also, just added a note to the post that PC only users who would not be able to use CSS Edit can request an extra 6 months free Plus membership in place of that prize.

  29. Bill Labus says:

Wait a minute, are there separate judging categories for PHP and Javascript, or just 3 winners out of both languages? Because if that’s the case, doesn’t that kind of disadvantage the Javascript people, since by its nature PHP is a much more powerful language?

  30. Nice contest I think.
    Really Cool

  31. I’m not considered a regular author right? I only wrote 1 article for NetTuts so far.

  32. Joe says:

You said to use formspring to submit entries, then showed a picture of posting in the comments, which do we use?

Also, can we submit multiple entries?

  33. Adam says:

Join to Joe’s question. Can se submit multple entries?

And what do we need to submit in our comments?

    Thanks.

  34. jem says:

Javascript components can use frameworks i presume?

Will there be any discrimination as to what framework is used? It would be awfully sad to see some sweet works in Prototype, dojo, mootools, etc, and then they get shot down for something inferior because they aren’t a jquery plugin.

  35. Jash Sayani says:

    Hi Jeff,

What is the last submission date??

Because I’m a bit busy right now and need to know if I need to submit mine asap…

  36. David says:

If this is stated above please forgive me but, how will the winners be selected? What will the judges take into account? Usability? Performance? Quantity of code? Ease of use? Luck (selecting at random)?

  37. Abhin says:

    Hi Jeff
It is necessary that PHP/JS component should be compatible with IE 6 for the competition or We can mention the compatible browsers.

    • When you submit an item to Themeforest, it asks you for all the browsers the code works in. You can list untested, works, or not works.

If you haven’t tested it in IE 6, just put untested. If it genuinely doesn’t work, put “doesn’t work”.

As for is it necessary to work for the competition, I have no clue.

  38. Omar Abid says:

i’m preparing a genuin script, hope i complete before 14 august

  40. dtbaker says:

Here’s a link to my awesome php newsletter system for $8!

    Hope I win!

  41. makfak says:

What’s the ruling on multiple submissions?

  42. Sitebase says:

Here are my two scripts and there’s more to come.

    Server monitor: http://themeforest.net/item/server-monitor/53028
    Translator: http://themeforest.net/item/translator/52860

  43. Felicity says:

You zip upload isn’t working on the submission form (JS component) – anyone else having same problem?

I have contacted Envanto a week ago, but still no fix :(

  44. Tommy M says:

    I just added Clivo, version 2.1 – http://themeforest.net/item/clivo/49074

    Looking forward to the results!!

  45. Felicity says:

Ok, so the zip upload is now a documented problem. Seems a little unfair as the closing date is looming, that a bug should prevent people from being able to enter.

I tried to submit my component about 2 weeks ago.

  46. makfak says:

I have added a jQuery plugin: siteFeature.

    http://themeforest.net/item/sitefeature/53896

    Enjoy

  47. makfak says:

I have added tweetGrab: a jQuery Plugin (standalone) and a jQuery-ed WordPress Plugin.

    http://themeforest.net/item/tweetgrab/54083

    Enjoy
