HTML5 JavaScript APIs

Tutorial Details
  • Topic: HTML5
  • Format: Video
  • Length: 47 Minutes

Just because you didn’t get to go to that awesome conference doesn’t mean that you can’t still watch the lectures! Each weekend, we’ll feature a recommended web development lecture on Nettuts+.

In December of last year, Remy Sharp spoke at CODEBITS about the various new HTML5 APIs. In the talk, he covers the video element, canvas, web storage, and other techniques.

“HTML5 is all the rage with the cool kids, and although there’s a lot of focus on the new language, there’s lots of interesting new JavaScript APIs both in the HTML5 spec and separated out. This presentation will take you through demos and code and show off some of the outright crazy bleeding edge demos that are being produced today using the new JavaScript APIs.”

Is there a way to download this video? For those of us with a poor Internet connection you can imagine trying to watch 47 minutes online…I’d rather download it and watch it complete instead of waiting.

This video is 272 megs. We have a very fast connection and the download is so slow. It feels like the file is being shared from a box using a Win 98 machine in Australia connected to a dialup/DSL connection. No offense meant by this post, but we are just telling you this so that you might park it somewhere else on a faster server. Split it up and host it on Youtube or Vimeo because it is truly impossible to watch inside your inline video player here.

The link above is the quickest way to obtain the .mp4 file, but it still says 30 minutes remaining with our download and we started the process 15 minutes ago. Before that, we tested everything here. Bandwidth test, rebooted routers and tried to view it on 3 computers and 3 operating systems. Same deal everytime.

I’m sharing this info not to complain, but to save time for future visitors and also let the Admin of this thread know that it maybe needs to be parked elsewhere.

Tutsplus is a great site and thanks for sharing all the info that you do.

This is awesome. It’s mainly the information from the book Introducing HTML5 which I’m just reading at the moment but I learn things better sometimes when I have them explained rather than just reading the stuff. I think the offline stuff is a little shaky at the moment but I love the potential of canvas, video and storage stuff. Thanks again.
