This week, we have two excellent new Net Premium tutorials for our members. First, Glenn Goodrich will teach you how to work with Refinery – a Rails CMS.       I use both. This one required the use of Internet Explorer, so I just opted for the PC.

        Ai, it was so logical ;) sorry..

        As a developer for years on a windows system, what would you say, did it take a lot of time to change to mac and how about the workflow speed, same, slower or faster on mac?

        I consider a change, because the tools on mac seems to be much better for php/mysql

    Yippee!

    I actually got the Refinery CMS up and running on my WinXP laptop with this tutorial. Ha!

    That’s no small feat considering how much I detest using the console to install and update RoR files (or are they called gems? … I can never get that straight) and that whole dependency thing gives me a rash.

    But I must say, I covet RoR apps so I’m forcing myself to overcome my aversion to console commands. Maybe I should play Zork for a few days?

    One thing I’d point out about the last step in the Refinery CMS tutorial is that when starting the server, I have to type “ruby script/server” and not just “script/server” to get it to start.

    Nice tutorial. I have refinery installed on my ubuntu system but when browsing the directory structure I noticed that there is no vendor directory. Did I do something wrong? I have been searching all over to find an answer with no luck.

    Refinery is the most powerful CMS application that I have ever used for rails, so far. I wish that the project wasn’t a gem to make the source easier to view and edit, but still sooo powerful!
