This guy is talking about some very interesting and fundamental information. All you have to say is he said um too much? That isn’t really fair.

I do agree that javascript in the browser is inherently insecure. I do see how XSS could allow an attacker to impersonate you on the Web or load any script of the attacker’s choosing in your browser. These concepts are not new. We know about them. However, the notion that XSS automagically allows the attacker to pown your database is just FUD. He completely ignores that there are natural partitions between systems. Particularly server-side systems. Yes, I understand that SQL injection is possible. But it’s like he’s trying to say Javascript is to blame. Huh?
Douglas Crockford is an inspiration. This has been such a great series, I watched them as they became available on YUI Theater. Even if your not a Javascript developer, they are very interesting for the history they give in programming and the web in general. Good to see they will reach a wider audience here.

Well… This was quite bad – I mean – the message he’s giving is: “everything but JavaScript is bad. JavaScript is a total miracle, sure it has are some tiny mistakes, but they were made in good intention or because of higher power.” It’s just silly.
I was just waiting when he’ll say that JS is answer to all our life problems. It’s almost like going to church: “God is solution to all our problems – and all the rest is just devil.” Meh. Too one sided and even contradictory; first he’s (almost) personal offended – when talking about: “how people don’t understand JS and how close-minded they are”, – after that, he’s laughing, and wondering how could anyone like CSS, and how people are offended when he has comments about it.
Well, anyway… If you’re able to overlooked all the nonsense, the series aren’t so bad.
that’s not true
he simply points out, that javascript isn’t all bad (as many would have you believe!) and that it actually contains good ideas
he must defend it harder, because so many people just plain hate it, often times without reason
also.. I think Crockford would be the FIRST to say, that JS is by no means perfect and that there is a LOT of stuff that’s seriously broken about the language.. in fact im pretty sure he points that out regurarly even in this series ;)
Yes he points out issues of JavaScript such as null and undefined, with(), etc …
As mark said he is a bit too much biased sometimes.

Had dinner with Mr Crockford once, at Code Camp a couple of years. Nice guy. Fun to talk to.
I guess it probably helped that I had absolutely no idea “who” he was.
