Easy Website Updates with PageLime

PageLime makes the process of editing static websites laughably easy. There are times when a full CMS like WordPress is far too complicated when only simple edits are required – not to mention the fact that a static template must first be modified accordingly to work with WordPress. Wouldn’t it be easier if your current static website could instantly be integrated with a service, without requiring hours of conversion time? This is where PageLime comes in.

In today’s video tutorial, we’ll go through the process of purchasing a site template on ThemeForest, and then integrating that specific template with PageLime, resulting in a website which is super easy to update…even for your mom.

What’s in Store for PageLime?

In the CEO’s own words…

  • Repeating Regions – You/Your clients will be able to have regions that you define as repeatable. This will let you dynamically create new buttons in navigation, blog like article additions, etc. This is in testing now, and will roll out across all sites in the next week!
  • Multipage Dynamic Content – You will be able to define areas that show up on other places in the website. So when you update them, they update in other places.
  • Blog – Drop in simple PageLime managed blog.
  • Client Invoicing – We’re building an invoicing feature from withing PageLime that will let you manage your PageLime clients with auto recurring invoices that link to your PageLime account. This basically allows you to setup a subscription model for you clients, and pass the cost of PageLime directly to them. OR charge them more, and make money off of PageLime! This will be a feature in the Business Account Level.
  • iPhone App – Manage websites from an iPhone application. This is already designed, just need to go about building it soon. I can send you screenshots if you would like.
  • eCommerce – Either a partnership with another team, or build one ourselves that can be dropped in, like the blog.

    Dreamweaver CS4 also supports InContect Editing: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-dreamweaver-cs4/introducing-adobe-incontext-editing/

    I prefer havin evrythig on my server though. With dreamweaver, in order to edit something, you need an Adobe ID. I think it would be weird to tel my Clients that they need to dign up with adobe in order to edit their site :)

    i see a lot of moaning about pagelime on here but i think a lot of it is ignorance rather than a full critical appraisal. having used it myself i would definitely recommend it and i think that as it has more options than just the simple choices in other light cms that it is to be respected, not feared.

    I am really impressed. Based on the feedback from this site, I have been seriously reviewing Pagelime, LightCMS and so far my favorite Unify.

    I like how LightCMS can be privately branded even on the free versions, thus allowing for easier sell to my existing clients. Also like the fact that each client can have 3 pages with hosting for free. But on the flip side most of my clients are already hosted. Thus making this a great solution for future clients. I also like LightCMS reseller options to directly bill the client and to send me the profits based on what I am willing to charge.

    I really like Pagelime for my existing clients as a simpler solution to Joomla or wordpress (for client frontend use). I am hoping they will also allow a private label on the free versions, so that I can sell it easier. Also a direct to client billing option would be great too.

    Finally, my favorite and what seems too simple to be allowed, is unify. I love how easy this is. Pricing is cheap. But I don’t see an option for private labeling.

    So my search will continue. Hopefully I find a solution that works, but for now I plan to use Pagelime for my existing clients, and LightCMS for future clients that need hosting too.

    I am watching this after some time but I noticed when you created the new page and linked to it from the home page, the new page had the original nav that was different from the newly created nav. Obviously that can be a big problem. Is there an update that lets the nav be global? Or would that be a reason to use a richer CMS? Otherwise I love the simplicity and feel…

      There is a global navigation feature now. At any time you can manage your navigation and it is reflected on all existing pages.

      The big downer for me right now is it seems like updating the page’s template does not update any existing pages. I don’t understand why a template file change would not apply to a page created with that template.

      Now that my client wants a change to the general site layout, I have to create a new template and then rebuild the entire website again!

      Does anyone know a workaround for this? Am I missing something?

        Thats because almost all templates are made with HTML almost 100%.
        The only way i see a workaround its to use some php files for header, footer and siderbar, WordPress -style.
        Sorry for my English, is not the best i know ^^
