Terminal, Git, and GitHub for the Rest of Us: Screencast

So you’ve read the tutorials, and still can’t manage to figure out this stuff? What is Git – and why do we even need it? If you fall into this category, much like I did at one point, I’ve recorded a video tutorial that hopes to teach you exactly how to get started. Rather than feeling your eyes blur over as you attempt to comprehend code snippets like “git push origin master,” relax, and let me explain it to you as best as I possibly can!

FYI, there is something horribly off between the audio and video–the audio is at least 30 seconds ahead of the video. I tried both the inline and the iTunes version. The link to the MP4 download version is broken. Sounds like a great tutorial–sure would love to see it (properly).

Fix the damn video, I want to watch it.

    (desperately)

The video sync issue hasn’t been corrected so I took actions into my own hands :-) , sorry Jeffrey. I downloaded it from itunes and re-synced the file in Premiere. Here is the link to the new synced version on youtube. Jeffery, contact me if you want to remove it and/or if you’d like the file to replace this out of sync version.

Not trying to step on anyone’s toes, just want to make sure that this great tutorial is accessible. Thanks for doing it, BTW, because it’s very helpful

    • Christopher

Oops, too long for Youtube, it’s been removed. Here it is on Vimeo.

      Ahh, it’s gone.

“This video has been removed because it is too long.”

      • Nicklas

        Nevermind that. Vimeo works.

Yes, Fix the damn video, I want to watch it.

  • Dave

My god! Thought I was going mad, as if this isn’t confusing enough already and then there’s the massive delay. Couldn’t you at least acknowledge this issue before people waste their time watching the out of synch version. Thanks to Christopher for going to the effort!

    Really useful video! Tenks.

  • akhil

the video is not working properly
and also link to MP4 is broken..

  • Weston

Any chance you can fix the video? There is a BIG lag time (about 3 minutes difference) between the video and the audio.

2 and a half years later the video is still messed up. I don’t think its ever going to get fixed. Sucks though, was really excited about finding this easy ‘for the rest of us’ screencast..

  • http://aamnah.com Aamnah Akram

PS: cheers to the awesome dude in comments who fixed and re-uploaded the video on Vimeo. Thanks mate! If the editor of this post would just include that link in the post we wouldn’t have to go through the comments to find the fix. Shouldn’t be that difficult to add a link, definitely easier than fixing the video..

PPS: if only they fix the mp4 link, i can download the video and use VLC to fix the out of sync audio. In VLC, while you’re watching the video, just press the J or K keys to move the audio back or forward 50 milliseconds, respectively. If J and K don’t work, Ctrl+K and Ctrl+L would probably do. I’m a Linux user and the iTunes download link is no good to me as is.

Like tarek already mention, something is off between the audio and video.
Would you please re-export the video for us.

Thank you very much in advance.
