Very interesting post. I have been having a problem in that my Text Widget has disappeared from the Widgets portion of my Dashboard. It no longer appears in the menu of available widgets. This happened with I upgraded to 2.8 and it has not returned with 2.8.1. Do you have any idea what I might try to get it to return? I've had to luck with the Wordpress forums. Thanks!

You could export your local database and then reimport into the live site, the only problem you run into there is that you're actually importing everything (your whole local database) into the live site, rather than just the widget data

I find that better when i am developing locally and i need to go live. Otherwise I lose the widget data and have to dabble in the DB to getall the data in the widgets. Or is there a way of getting the Widget data from the local database to the live one?
