5 More Helpful Video Quick Tips

Nov 20th, 2009 in Screencasts by Jeffrey Way

As many of you might know, I post a sporadic video quick tip on Twitter once a week or so. For those of you who don't follow us, here are the latest five.

You'll learn how to select anything and everything with jQuery, how to log PHP errors to a text file, how to change your website's background with each WordPress post, and more. Each video does not exceed five minutes.

Hi, I'm Jeff. I'm the editor of Nettuts+, and the Site Manager of both ThemeForest, and CodeCanyon. I spend too much time in front of the computer and find myself telling my fiance', "We'll go in 5 minutes!" far too often. I just can't go out to dinner while I'm still producing FireBug errors...drives me crazy. During my free time, I sporadically write articles for my own personal blog. If it will keep you in the good graces of the church, follow us on Twitter.

    In the screencast “How to Select Anything and Everything with jQuery”, why would you use “eval” over “RegExp”?

    return RegExp(‘/’ + meta[3] + ‘/’, ‘i’).test(…);

    With that error logging, is there a way to log the errors without displaying them to the user?

      You can display custom friendly errors to users and log the details of the true error, but you must create a really robust error checking, probably a class to manage this would be be a nice start.

    Great video tutorials. I particularly liked that ones jQuery related. Even that I’m not a big fun of jQuery, sometimes I’m using it when is coming to pictures effects. Thanks again!
